What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Installed 5 dual ground electrode denso spark plugs, ran outta time to do the last one. Cleaned the front of the throttle body (there was some black shits up in there!)





I pulled out 5 single ground ngk plugs. When I started it back up to leave the garage, I got 2 CEL codes!!! My first ones! It was shifting funny but I got it home. I checked everything again and on the driver side I forgot to tighten a ground bolt. So I tightened it and cleared the codes.

Took it out for a quick drive and everything seems good! phew

 

how did you manage that?

 

Drove 7 hours in the new truck. Got 20.7 mpg the whole way there. Not too bad.

 

They'll fit. Might stick out quite a bit though.

 

They looked fine before I lifted the truck last September and yes I do have the diff drop. now the upper boot on the other side is ready to go as well. I'll be doing the boot slide mod or just getting new CV axles next week I haven't decided yet.

finished off a tank of gas, all in city driving, 19.87 mpg

 

had a busy weekend,started off by chopping the exhaust

then installed the new steel braided brake line

removed the stock leafs

installed OME greasable shackles and daystar greable main spring eye bolt

installed the 3 pack and also kept the toytec aal from before but removed the OL leaf

heres what it looks like now


finished off the day by disconnecting the swaybar endlinks,bleading the brakes,cleaning the airfilter and maf sensor

 

The weather has been so nice I decided to go topless

 

I'll bet it drives like a new truck. How are you liking the disconnected anti-swaybar so far?

 

^^^yah the ride has totally changed,its not near as rough. without the swaybar hooked up its feels much different to,you dont feel a bump on the road through the entire frontend now only on that one side,i kinda like it.

 

whats the point of disconnecting the anti-sway bar? just a different ride?

It makes the suspension truly independent. With a sway bar both driver side and passenger side LCAs are attached to one another by the sway bar which acts like a torsion bar and limits flex. If you were to take a sharp left turn the passenger side coilover would compress and bind the sway bar to the driver side coilover. When you take it off you get better flex and more independant action over potholes but at the cost of some more body roll.

By disconnecting I'm hoping to get more flex/articulation off pavement.

With the bar hooked up I wasn't getting anywhere near the bump-stops. With it disconnected, the wheel stuffs up into the wheel-well a lot further. In theory this means better traction is those instances where you are all twisted up, keeps the wheels planted for better traction up front.

The downside is we still do most of our mileage on the pavement.

What shitroc is referring to is, with the bar disconnected, the way the truck reacts to potholes and road imperfections is changed. Personally, I like it a lot better. It also seems to have improved how the rear suspension works too. I was a little surprised by that.
