Timing Belt Replacement and Parts

I have a gen1 2004 3.4 and need to do a timing belt/water pump.

The mechanic i use and trust quoted me a fair price......but it looks like he uses part number WP271K1C which i show as a DAYCO kit? It looks like its got good reviews but you cant believe everything you read on the internet.

Id like to use an OEM kit from Toyota. I think there are some good ebay sellers that have been mentioned here in the past.

Just wondering if the DAYCO kit is good enough.

I have never had the parts changed out and it may have been done once prior to my ownership. Ive had it since about 75k and its got 219k on it now so its WAY over due and i know it.

 

Personally, for a job like this, I'd highly recommend going with OEM/OEM supplier parts from a reputable kit like the aircabinman kit on eBay. Tons of folks on here have used it, and you get nearly everything you need in a single kit - certainly a lot more than in that Dayco kit. I've personally done the job three times with this kit, and helped four other folks using the same kit. It's great.

I believe Aisin is what the OEM used. I got my kit from RockAuto and highly recommend it. Aisin is the Japanese supplier for Toyota and Honda for many of the motor parts. When looking through the parts on RA, they will often describe the part as OEM also.

I may have been offered a penny for my thoughts, but wanted to give my 2 cents, lol.

OP - what did your mechanic quote you for the labor? Curious because I was charged too much and unfortunately I needed it done

 

#1 for Aisin

 

I bought the Aircabinman kit and threw in a few more parts. Had it all done for labor only at a dealership for $700. That was back in.....2018?

 

The mechanic did mine and it turned out OK. Charged me $1800

 

did they have to remove and reinstall the radiator at that price?

 

Ha. Probably not. Local mechanic means higher prices

 

I agree with Post #2, buy the Denso kit from Aircabinman. Like the old Nike commercial says, "Just Do It". You'll be getting much better parts than the Dayco kit. Just my 2 cents worth.

 

I used the big kit from Aircabinman and also changed my fan pulley bracket, fan clutch and a valve cover gasket that looked like it might have been seeping. I figured that when changing the timing belt it was a good time to replace everything on the front of the engine.
