Just friendly advice ... the OP was banned for 30 days for asserting one too many opinions. "Friday threads" are laughed at for a reason, and I would rather stay silent than lose my access.

    Yeah.
Oh shit, she was married? Sorry bro :D

Always question anything anyone is trying to sell you. I don't believe either side of the argument at this point, as it seems everyone has read this book by now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_t... book written by,to articles as a freelancer.

I lived in St. Louis for a while even when I'd heard it was one of the most dangerous cities. This was somewhat true if you looked at how they calculated the stats. STL has a city tax boundary that was being used for those old stats, which was established WAY back in the 1900's. It was designed to protect tax dollars from the many city dwellers (at the time) from being used to support people that lived further out "in the boonies" (at the time). Those "boonies" are now where most people live, and that central tax district now has an extremely impoverished population. Per capita crime stats for that small central area are still likely very high, but if you expand out to include where all the people really are, it's a very safe area to live. It's kind of a hidden gem if you can avoid the shitty Provel cheese, toasted ravioli, and pork steaks (wtf is that, anyway?). And don't go to the east side of the river if you like your hubcaps (looking at you, Clark).

Bra, no problem with posting pic of wife, jus kidding, in Hawaii we share and spread the aloha. Correct on statistics, father was an accountant and the joke among accountants is when the boss ask you how much is 2+2 ? Your answer is how much would you like it to be?
Any was, long weekend coming up so let's get out there and have some fun.

Good thing it's not an opinion

All cities have pockets of high crime, this isnt new nor special. I can see how a dude in the 50s could easily lie, but today we have too many metrics and data points. Our world today revolves around data, the 50s didnt.

Just wanted to give y'all an update. Son never lifted the truck. Last Monday he was driving to work at 9 pm (dark) and T boned by drunk driver. Truck flipped onto its side and stayed flipped with the drivers side of the car on the pavement. Both side curtain airbags went off. Drivers door window shattered with micro glass fragments imbedded in the dash roof, doors and seats. Son walked away without a scratch (after another motorist held the passenger door up so that he could climb out). Other driver arrested. Now dealing with the insurance company to pay for car. Any thoughts on the car? Every panel and the cab bent except for the hood and tailgate. All the oil drained from the engine and some battery acid leaked. Filled back with oil and added water to the battery and the car started (smoked a lot at first). The frame is not bent and mechanically the truck seems ok. All the doors will open and close, some easier than others. What would the insurance company want for the car? Would this be a salvage title and if so could I get liability insurance? Any advice with dealing with insurance company when they low ball me on the replacement cost of the car? Thinking about keeping the wreck as a true off roader. Thanks for any advice. Note that the other driver while 100% at fault may only have $10k in property damage insurance and seeing he lives at a PO address, may have not much funds to legally recover from him.Note truck is 2023 Tacoma Off Raod With 20 K miles

You may be able to salvage the title if no frame damage but the airbags are very expensive and a liability to re-install for the mechanic shop. Very likely a total loss. Well, not a total loss because your son is okay!

Happy he is unharmed. Bet you’re son is happy he didnt waste money on the lift.

    Good luck with everything!

As mentioned would be tough/costly to get it road worthy again, but if you wanted to build a true OHV / off-roader could cage the truck, bob the bed, and put some one tons under it. Not cheap, but doable.

Regardless - Glad to hear your son made it out without a scratch.

FYI, I talked with some body shops, just trying to keep ahead of the insurance company. They all say trucked is total loss and none want to deal with airbag replacement (seems to be a liability issue) I can buy new toyota side air bags for $1,500 each and installed myself as well as reset seat belt and the air bag module, but then I am taking on some liability I would think (there are some good utube vids of how to replace, side curtain not too hard). Also, drove the truck for about a mile, and she runs fine and tracks fine.

Take the settlement ... and more importantly his life. Maybe he learned that $5000 of lift can be lost as easily as a damned fool on his cell phone paying no attention.

If it flipped, deployed airbags, and every body panel is messed up (including all interior due to glass), its most definitely totaled. As for trying to deal with insurance to get it back, well, thats a conversation for them because we can give you those prices. Sounds hard to believe every single piece of the truck is trashed but the frame is okay after a flip, but if so, thats pretty cool. Got any pics?

I'm glad your boy is ok and I hope the law deals decisively with that drunk driver.

PS: I can't help but wonder how different the outcome of this collision might have been had he done the 6 inch lift? Worse, better, or the same?

Tell him not to make any modifications until the truck tells him it needs it. I had all sorts of plans for “upgrades.” Ultimately, a set of Duratracs on my open differentials did the trick. My seats were getting grimy from sweat and dirt, so I got some covers. My bumper and grille are getting scratched up pushing through brush on our hunting property, so I have to figure that out next. That’s how you end up with the vehicle with modifications you need.

Without lift - Truck was totalled, kid walked away.

With DB lift - Truck would have been even more totalled, probability of occupant injury would be very slightly increased, chances of recovering any money spent on modifications is still zero.
