    10-4.
The question was simply to satisfy my own curiosity.

I stripped the trans pan on my 2nd gen back in 2015 torquing to spec. Never again.

Well, when I say 22, it's IIRC, and assuming the '15 Tacoma has the same pan as the 5th gen Runner..

I never torque the oil drain plug to "spec". It goes on until it gives resistance and maybe a quarter turn. The gasket does the rest.

The torque spec in the FSM for one of the tranny pan drain plugs is actually incorrect…too high…

Or are you talking about the bolts that fasten the pan to the tranny?

That’s the one. FSM states 21 ft-lbs which apparently is in error and should be 15.

Good time to add a Fumoto so you don't have to worry about stripping it again :)

Can you take a picture from the inside to show what the bung looks like inside. I'm curious to see how thick it is.

Is that dry torque (building new transmission) or wet torque? :p Transmission fluid happens to be a good lubricant and penetrant. 65% of 21 ft-lb is 14 ft-lb.

Note the cutout in the bung, so the drain doesn't act like a standpipe.

I haven't ever checked what the torque specs are for the drain plug, but I find it odd that a Japanese car company would use foot/pounds vs Newton/Meters.

The FSM is written with metric torques and ft-lbs in parentheses. Occasionally Toyota gets the conversion wrong.

BTW all the major American automakers (GM, Ford, Tesla) do the design work in metric.

I’ve personally never used a torque wrench on a drain plug and I’ve never had an issue. I do think they’re a good idea if someone hasn’t done a lot of hand tightening of things

OP, I would replace the pan and consider it a learning experience
