I just added grease to the ball joint on my SPC UCAs, and I'm worried that I added too much grease. The boot is bulging. Is that ok or will it cause problems?

It'll be fine excess will bleed out the base. If you want to be sure use a pick on the base of the boot and squeeze a bit out.
I don't think spc ball joints wear out any slower even with the boot intact.

That's what I figured, but I saw a post where someone said their boot tore after overfilling it. How would I use a pick to squeeze grease out? Just pry the bottom of the boot out a little?

Exactly. Just make some space for the grease to purge out.

try to get out as much as you can. squeeze out what you can with your fingers. for the rest put some rags around the suspension parts and cycle the suspension stationary as much as you can so the rest of excess can squeeze out. i did the same thing without realizing it and it shot out on some parts of the suspension. boot was okay, just a mess.

It probably doesn't matter, the ball joint itself will develop excessive play in the real world, but "normal" according to SPC. Clunking and noises will happen and you'll need to replace every 5-8k miles even driving 99% on paved roads.

If I had to do it all over again, the SPCs and the larger tires are the only things I would change. They have both been problems. I have gone back down to smaller tires now, so I don’t even need the SPCs anymore.

I havnt had any notable issues with increasing the tore size but my spc's were a major issue way to fast. Every component was shot in 8k. Simply never again.

The boot is vented at the bottom. Excess grease should just come out where the boot touches the spindle.

I had boot tears from contact with the coil at full droop. Replacement boots are relatively cheap.

It appears to have been self-correcting. I drove for about an hour on a forest service road, and lots of grease came out. Mine came out of the top, though. I don’t know if that means anything, but my grease has always come out of the top.

^You probably have a tear in the boot near the top... Doesn't matter much though as you can always pump new grease in.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, but it does it on both the driver and passenger sides. And I only over-filled one side. This is also my second set in two years because the bearings went bad on the first set.

The newer version SPC do not require greasing and don’t have the zerk fitting

The farkles have started and on order
I just had my SPC replaced. Only 10k highway driving and the bushings wore out. I greesed them every 3 to 4k miles. I found out they tried a new vendor for the bushings and they were crap. The company here in NJ that installed them got SPC covered them under warranty. The new SPC doesn't need greese and the ride is smooth again.

Bushings and ball joints shot after 6K miles. SPCs are a joke!

I don’t necessarily disagree. Do you guys have alternative UCAs that you prefer?

It was funny when my first set gave out. The shop told me they had been having a lot of problems with SPCs. I asked if they recommended another brand, and they said, “No, we only work with SPCs.”

OEM UCAs are the best. Most people upgrade without the actual need for the adjustability or other claimed benefits of aftermarket.
