yea but it’s a bit odd looking with all that silver showing but from what I can tell it’s right. I shared a pic with SPC and looked at other Tacoma installs. I’ve got it torqued to the right amount too

 

Eric, you may wanna jack it back up and smack the top of it with a hammer. I did some Google images and o don’t think you’re seared all the way…

 

since 2 of you said something I’ll double check.

I did share a pic with SPC customer service and they didn’t mention it. It’s also seated perfect for the cotter pin to fit. I think the shaft is a little wider or longer than the old style. The one in my pic is the newest.

if it went higher (or lower) then that hole wouldn’t line up. I should have taken more pics. But I’ll let you two know what I find out.

 

Saw this post by @UMC and he has a pic of both old and newest.

maybe he’ll chime in on his install and if there is a lot of the shaft showing. The pic makes it look like there would be. I’ll try and get a pic of the seat too.

 

Yes the shaft is longer on the new ball joint. SPC says they did this intentionally for performance. I have about 500 miles on the new joints and everything looks good feels good.

 

Thanks for the response! While installing didn’t think it would go any higher on that but never hurts to check.

 

Yeah I thought the same thing especially comparing them side by side so I called spc. I found them to be very helpful and always answer the phone

 

I emailed SPC and asked them about the length of the shaft and here was their response with attachment.
"In responding to your initial question about the length of the taper on the stud I remembered to give you the yes, and the “because it improves geometry” portion of that, but forgot to mention that a gap between the boot and knuckle is also to be expected. I’ve also attached an illustration with the relative distances to expect on the various ball joints and arms for Toyotas. No specific numbers on it, but a noticeable gap is to be expected. The shaft on the ball joints is nickeled, whole ball and shaft with the new design actually, so rust shouldn’t be an issue unless you ding that thing pretty good."

looks like you’ve got aftermarket spindles too, or are the 2nd gen’s a little different?

 

Spindle gussets that were made by a Fab shop local to me.

Yea, could cause a lot of issues if it wasn’t.


Unfortunately, I still have a squeak upfront I was hoping would go away with the new arms. Guess I gotta look into the radiator/front mount bushing. Hit all the usual spots with silicon spray.
