I have their X3 and really like it, tho I am ACLB so it barely fits.

 

Very nice. I am currently using a tent that utilizes an 8x8 canopy so it's more like 20 minutes to setup my tent and then move everything into it.

Which means I have to transport the canopy portion and an entire tote of the tent portion. No bedspace

 

After having to fold mine up on a cold morning after a rainy/snowy night was when I placed the order for my Drifter.

 

I've done it plenty, end up cold weather camping a lot, it's no biggie. I mean I get it, but things like a drifter are a lot of weight and much higher COG to then deal with.

 

speaking of…

I want a hard sided tent though. This ARB is great, but the cover is barely bigger than the tent and is a massive pain to put back on properly. I usually don’t even zip it back up.

surf craigslist and ebay every once in a while for a power hack saw available nearby! Slow and outdated but they can be found for $300 or less pretty often and they're great for cutting tube. Most well built ones will cut to a 20 thou or less tolerance. Even good bandsaws and cold cut saws won't quite do that unless fine tuned perfectly. Plus cool old merican arn

 

HREW for bedcage? Thoughts?

If your bed cage were to fail when made out of HREW I’d doubt very highly it would have succeeded with DOM.

 

Absolutely fine. your design and welding will have a 10-fold bigger effect on its strength than the type of tube you use.

Dumb question maybe but I don't have access to a plasma table or anything fancy and want to put a base washer under the standoff for the bedbolts, is there a site I can order different size unplated washers? I found tons of sites for shock tabs in any size and design.

 

if you can't find something off the shelf, sendcutsend has simple templates for stuff like that. just put in your ID and OD.

 

love using send cut send…. Now the fedex shipping on the other hand…

When I go to buy tube what is the most common grade of steel I will find?

 

most places will have A513, which is what you want. I believe there is only one other grade of HREW, and I've never seen it readily available without a special request.
