I learned my last shift ... active duty military Dads get 3 months off after birth of a child. When we had ours, you had to take your personal leave ... i think I took a week for the first son, and was on month mid-tour leave from remote tour in Turkey for second. He was born 1 week in, two weeks later I had to leave for the trip back. 6 months later when my tour ended I saw him again. It's a different world.
