Our dogs do the same with raccoons, the severe shaking appears to break their neck from what we have seen.

Got a pile of these at work being sent off for scrap. Anything interesting about them or their power output etc?

Nothing interesting to me but you could probably find some kind of use for them. Might be good for recharging trail cams or something like that.

Well they did come from a camera system so that would make sense.

Everybody has one and you should too. My buddy in Colorado has an AT Overland Summit topper with four solar panels on top. Here is a pic of the bed.

Thanks for sharing this, I'm borrowing your friend's idea to put carpet on the top of the fridge. Mine is in the back seat of quad cab and gives hella nasty glare on the windows in direct sun, I hadn't even thought of carpet to fix it but that's a perfect solution. Cheers!

I asked once before a while back what people were using for heat shrink because I was always using a lighter. People suggested a heat gun. Well the heat gun I have is a big ol' Wagner that I bought many moons ago for stripping paint and that just didn't make sense to me for tiny butt connectors.

I went looking for something small and cordless and came up with nothing but a bunch of weirdly named Chinese products with terrible reviews. After @Thatbassguy the bumper electrician was here and we had to again use a lighter (his butane lighter was definitely superior to my camp lighter) I decided to search again and I think I found what I was looking for.

    PXL_20240920_214135274.jpg

Butane powered and it has a tip designed for heat shrink. It's made in Taiwan and feels like a quality tool. Of course it arrived today but the butane arrives tomorrow, so I have to wait to play with it.

Anybody else use something like this?

Those compact butane units are good especially when you are doing repairs in tight space on the vehicle like under the dash where you can't remove it completely and do it on the bench.

But for jobs where I'm doing something on the bench, I just use a $10 Harbor Freight corded version. Basically like a hair dryer on steroids. They used to be like $10 but with inflation now $20 unless you can get a coupon/sale.

That'll work good for the solder seal connectors.
I used a lighter on those because the hairdryer on steroids started melting the wire before the solder.

I used the steroidal hairdryer on the heat shrinks for the recent wiring work.

I wish I had the know-how to do automotive wiring. I freak out replacing already wired stuff. Hooking up something new is out. I blew up a decent amp that I tried to install when I was 17, way before all this electronic shit wiring. I guess I developed a phobia to wiring from that incident.

It only needs to be as complicated as you want to make it.

What I did above is about as basic as it gets to send power from point A to point B. IMO

Yeah, that Harbor Freight gun looks like the old Wagner I have. I just figured there had to be something better for the small stuff. I'll have to get something new to wire now so I can try the new toy. Lemme go check a few saved shopping carts... :D
