The big spring is the key. I have been warned to not play with that spring unless I know what I am doing ... HAH! ... they know me SOOOO well.

Seriously, that spring does 99.5% of the work, the opener is just supposed to "tip the balance that is required to move it".

Camping question ... which kind of firestarter do you prefer: a USB-charged sparker, or the magnesium/flint scraping kits that never need to be charged?

Bic lighters are great and cheap but they can let you down is freezing temperatures. If you want to get fancy with it candle lighters are handy.
Ferro rods or magnesium sticks are fun but I highly recommend trying it and getting comfortable with it before you need it (like most survival and medical equipment).
Vaseline and cotton balls are great multipurpose items and saturating cotton balls with Vasile is a great way to catch a spark and get a fire going.

If you plan on packing a propane camp stove toss in a torch head for it and it's a giant lighter for easy fires or a handy multipurpose item for stubborn trail repairs.

all those "firestarters" are fun but i'm not filming a reality show or posing pics for instagram, so its a plain ol' lighter for me, i prefer the long ones and have at least two in the rigs at all times so i'm never let down.

I just had a whole new system put in and talked with multiple companies. J&M came recommended by my realtor and they did awesome work and beat the others prices. I’d use them again in a heartbeat.

Just keep like 3 lighters in the truck and if all 3 fail a fire rod and scraper. In backpack I keep waterproof matches in addition to lighters.

For getting a fire lit I like the Bigfoot bushcraft fire plugs

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
+1 to all of this. The bic's tend to stay close for 420 reasons anyway.

Those bushcraft fire plugs were nice to have in a pinch and all the wood around was wet. Now I'm just a spoiled brat and buy a bag of firewood just in case.

Decided to feel out how much the new Alu-Cab ModCAP *Base* camper shell runs (no tent). Got an estimate north of $12k installed.

Its a cool system but thats a bit rich for my blood at current income.

    RTT it is!

On the flip side Alu-Cab load bars are quite reasonable.

Alucab stuff is a ripoff. For that price you can get a GFC and have $4000 leftover.
