When I tried to start my Tacoma, the engine simply clicked. I could hear the starter engaging and humming, yet no signs from the engine. I made sure it was in park, tried to start it while moving, checked to see if it was grounded, jumped the car, and all the electrics work as the lights, stereo, and dash work just fine. I changed the starter and relay to no avail. I'm completely lost as the car started perfectly the day before. pls help. [IMG]

It's been a long time since I've had to replace my starter, so I may be all wet here...:notsure:

Does the engaging and humming sound like the starter motor is spinning? Or does it just hum?

If all you hear is a hum, then something could be preventing the solenoid from moving its gear into the flywheel. If that's the case, no current would be applied to the starter motor windings and the starter will not spin.

If it sounds like the starter is actually spinning then it could be that something is preventing the solenoid's gear from turning the flywheel. Broken tooth on the flywheel?

Prolly have to take it out and test it on the bench to make sure that the solenoid is actually moving.

Yep, like Dm93 said, check for voltage drop, which is what you had.
