Here I was typing up a long winded post asking if I needed to buy a new battery charger for this new AGM battery only to read through the manual ( ) on my charger to see that it has an AGM setting that I've never used. :anonymous:

The lawnmower gods were kind today!

After picking up the drive belt from NAPA I went home and grabbed some tools so I would be prepared for a minor tear down if necessary. One thing I grabbed was some split ring pliers because I noticed a split ring that holds a cooling fan on top of the belt pulley. The fan is kind of in the way when you replace the belt so I thought if it will come off easy it may make the job a bit easier.

    upload_2024-9-21_19-27-36.jpg
Here’s my view of the problem. You can see the belt on the upper right over the linkage bar and the all in the way fan.

So I take the split ring off and gently pull on the fan. It slides up easy and once off I see the shaft it’s attached to is splined. I was expecting a pressed on pulley so I was a bit surprised to see the splines. Could the pulley slide off as easy as the fan? It did! Not only that but now I can see the belt and there’s no damage. I was able to pull some slack in the belt, drop it in the pulley groove and slide it back onto the shaft. The fan went right back on and I snapped the split ring back in place. Start to finish was less than 5 minutes!

I fired off the mower and eased onto the gas pedal, we go forward. I try reverse, it works too. :yay: I crossed my fingers and started mowing. I was easy on the accelerator and came to a complete stop before going in reverse, I finished the mowing and got it loaded back onto the truck with no other problems.

I’ll keep the belt because the old one may just decide to snap the next time I mow.

You figured it out Soundman lol.

I really don’t know what caused it. I had made a pass and was turning around in a small area so it was a 3 point turn. I had to go into reverse then back forward but it wasn’t a quick transition. It must have been under just enough strain from the ditch slope that it caused a bind when going between the them. There wasn’t any shudders or slipping that I could feel after getting it back on so I don’t think it’s a problem with any idler pulleys.

    Looks great!

Does the municipality make owners shovel the sidewalk in front of their houses or is it voluntary? I’ve lived in both types and it doesn’t seem to work out too well when it’s voluntary…

If it helps ease your mind sir, I too started with the Blue Ryobi tools and have upgraded to the green ones over the years. I now have a whole garage of Ryobi and have zero complaints about their products.

I guess I've never looked into the official laws, everyone (well, most everyone) just does their own snow removal. If the city has to do it, I'm sure there would be a healthy bill.

Dad bought me the 5 piece combo over 20 years ago. The circular saw and reciprocating saw are still going strong.

I’ve got 1 or 2 of the green ones!
