Just had lower control arms replaced. I dont know if maybe these are 3rd party control arms and not OEM and they have a different profile that causes what I'm going to describe or its my wheel bearings ?

When driving down the road and i hit about 55-60km/hr / 30 -40 miles per hour i start hearing a sound that sounds close to something like you would get blowing across the top of a bottle. Tried to record it but the wind noise coming in window when driving stops my phone from recording it. Never heard this low howling noise before i had the lower control arms replaced. I cant seem to isolate its source and just wondering if anyone had a similar sound and can give me a few ideas where to start crawling around. I'm stumped . I still have the chin strap on my 2017 sport as i know that might be a question.

Check if there are holes in the bottom of your new arms. This was an 'issue' on my OEM ones...there is a plug you can buy to put in the hole if that's the case.

OK, I'll get this started. I do not have this noise problem, but it sounds like a possible differential roller bearing that can be replaced with the East Coast Gear bushing.

I've heard if you put the truck into 4W HI and the noise goes away then it is quite possibly the roller bearing going out. The bearing noise is only on the left side.

Perfect. Hopefully this is the issue and not the bearing as quoted below. I assume those plugs are something i can just get on Amazon similar to the plastic plugs used to cap the drilled holes for the oil spraying they do annually on my truck.

Thanks Gentlemen. I'll check both of these and see if either might be the cause.

That was the issue. Thank-you ! Just glad it wasn't Diiferential a needle bearing.
The new Lower control arms had 5 holes in them not plugged. I followed directions in the TSB ( See PDF attached below) and got some 9/16 Nylon plugs from Canadian tire and plugged the 3 holes each side the TSB said to and Voila. noise is gone. Went for a drive down a few side roads and No more Tacoma Pan flute.

Being in an area they love to use their salt i am going to shoot some fluid film into the holes of the control arm to stop any rust

Awesome. Glad it was an easy fix!

I am assuming everything being covered in grease....was fixed when the lower arms were replaced? If not, you definitely need to look into that lol

that's an oil/lanolin coating i have sprayed on for winter. Its thick and gloopy and after hitting a few dirt roads it creates this dirt impregnated oil coating that sticks on the whole underside of the truck. They like to spray it on thick . there's quite a bit of grease on the bushings when they replaced the control arms.
