There was an interest rate ceiling in AR of 10%. So, finance companies charged 9.999% to stay within the law. Interest amounts were looked up in a table of figures for writing into a contract. Some enterprising dude who worked for a company that sold Westing Credit discovered an error in the amount table that effectively charged 11%. He went out and bought a new Mark IV Lincoln and financed it with WCC. So, the amount charged was illegal at the time. He filed a lawsuit claiming an unlawful interest rate. He won, and the loan was declared void and paid in full. Then, in the early 80s, the law was struck down, causing finance rates to shoot up to 15%.

A dealer could buy down the interest rate for a special promotion. Cars were often sold for a loss to lock in a financing + insurance deal where the real money was made. Salesmen were paid a flat commission rate of $35 to $75 per car. They didn't give a fuck if any profit was made. Just pump them out the door. The Dodge dealer usually had 8 to 10 salesmen standing outside the dealership in a line, waiting for a potential customer to pull in. I remember we would pull in and crawl through the dealer lot at 2 MPH to see how many salesmen would take off chasing us to open the car door.

The Hull Dobbs system for car sales was invented in Memphis, TN.

We always have a good turnout at Little Rock Rigs and Coffee with some classic Toyotas.

Finally got the TTC shakedown of the new M12 Stubby.

It does put out giant power numbers for such a small tool, but also demands giant power from the battery. I'm curious to see how both the tool and the batteries used in it hold up over time. It looks like it could be a great tool for emergency work in the field and for occasional shop use but might burn itself (or its batteries) up if it spends a lot of time working at its limits.

It's way easier to invest in the M18 platform since there are a ton of tools to use HO batteries on; I can't imagine having to buy into M12 HO batteries just for a single tool or two

    Looks awesome though for sure

I have both M12 and M18 already. The Gen1 M12 stubby was one of the main reasons I started buying Milwaukee tools--I wanted a small, lightweight tool to keep in my truck and carry at the junkyard.

It looks like the M18 version of this (assuming Milwaukee makes one) will be a much better tool if you don't mind the larger form factor. A Gen2 M18 stubby with a compact Forge battery (if they make one) will probably be a great compromise between power, size, and weight.

I can see that; definitely be super handy at a pick n pull

Now that you reminded me, I do remember my M18 feeling heavier as I walked throughout the entire lot

Packing it up in the truck though was no biggie

I only mentioned M18 since you've got angle grinders, leaf blowers, and a wider array of tools that'll benefit from an HO

What is an M18 grinder actually good for though, they stall so easily. Wire cup... Stalls, flap disc... Stalls, cutting disc... Works grudgingly if you're very gentle and have time to waste.

That might of been your tool. I had a m18 grinder that stalled like that, but my co workers wouldnt. than i got another that would never stall unless you were over there putting all your weight into it.

i think something about the early batch of m18 fuels was flawed

You should borrow mine; has never stalled with anything I've ever used and it's a few years old already.

You can abuse it and it won't quit.

That's what I was thinking. I got my M18 grinder since I had used a buddy's when I first got into welding school and his was a beast as well.

Mine's going on about 3 years now?

Thankfully I don't have to buy battery electric tools anymore really since leaving the machine shop. Impact is good, drill is good, sawzall is decent but not great, grinders were disappointing. I'll stick with just the drill and impact, cutting just ain't a battery tool job IMO.
