The more I use this machine the more I'm realizing I need to increase the travel speed. So to alleviate that I should reduce wire speed?

Correct. Adjust the voltage as needed as well.

I will add that settings will also depend on what look you are going for too... smooth weld, stacked-dime weld, etc will all require different settings and movements

Do you follow that westweld guy on insta? I was wondering if his table emptying setup was a good idea or not.

    The who?

    I'm almost never on IG

I'm emptying it as if I'm doing routine maintenance (removing all the crud and drops in the waterbed) but also because I'm not going to remove a water bed with a ton of weight

There's so much crud and build up that the build-up on the edges is so thick, the slats cut into it like a knife through a fudge brownie

I’ve seen several different table setups where they drain and refill them. I wanted to do one in the beginning but it evaporates out of my table so fast in the summer it’s not worth it. Would make it easier to clean though. Mine just has a drain that I dump into several buckets

I've got a reservoir sitting underneath the table that I've yet to plumb to the table.

Really I never got to it because I didn't want to go through the hassle of draining the table, cleaning it out, and putting a new drain with pipe but now I feel like I can do that.

That and I'll need to buy a pump to refill the table with from the reservoir.

I'll snap a picture when I got home, just left to buy some fire ant bait and killer since I saw a bunch right outside my garage door.

    Reserected from the dead.
I welded in a bung in the bottom my water pan. Screwed in a garden hose valve. I attach a short length of garden hose to it and drain it on the lawn. Nothing toxic is present and the grass doesn't seem to mind the extra iron.

I rinse the pan with the garden hose from the house.

    Here's my tank

    20240921_190638.jpg

Meant to hold the contents of my table for a quick drain and fill, but I got right to cutting before I ever ran pipe to it

    Think it's 15 or 17 gallons?

Those videos were always cool; boiling water does the trick though (just doesn't create that cool art piece)

Not sure where the mound is, since they were all around the water drain and the only thing near it was our big lavender bush

Also, you put my quote with someone else's username

@Zebinator Since you're getting a table, you should consider getting a small system built up and worked out for a drain and refill.

Some people just use pressurized air to refill their table from their under-the-table reservoir. I'll be using an electric pump.

if you have two mounds take a scoop of dirt from each and swap the piles it goes to, the ants will think they are being invaded an go to war with each other

but what better way to kill fire ants than with fire... Bit of lighter fluid to soak the mound and then :nuclear:

It was in the evening; wasn't gonna spend more than 2 minutes out there since the kid was getting put down to bed

Went out this morning and there's some dead ants, and nothing moving where I sprinkled that powder

Sounds like CNC plasma isn't for you then ;)

Going back to your other post regarding the IG guy, I never heard of him but since the Crossfire came out, many people have incorporated their own drain and refill systems

Especially the 3D printed dimple die, there's a file that's been going around in the Langmuir forum; I just don't have a 3D printer

The advantages with having a drain and refill setup is you can easily drain and refill your table which would encourage shorter intervals between clean up

Yesterday I was simply using my magnet to pull big clumps of water soaked metal dust and crud

Today, I ran my shop vac to get the remainder out

    20240922_113158.jpg

It was disgustingly filthy and that was with only 10 months since the last thorough cleaning

This stuff here was just the tiny bit I had left in the table last night, the bulk was far worse

    20240922_113607.jpg

To prevent from such an undertaking, just drain your table every 4 months

Clean up the crud on the table surface, then proceed to refill

Your fluid will remain much cleaner for a lot longer

Also, got the Y axis screws removed so now to pan the gantry

Movement is absolutely fluid so that tells me it's nice and square....

Well, after removing the axis screws and panning fully back and forth, she glides smoothly telling me it is square like I assumed

So I scrubbed each tube and loosened up every bearing block as if I'm doing a new assembly
