Just picked up my first pickup truck, a used 2023 tacoma limited and after my wife mentioned that the tires look small, I checked out the suspension: Is this Leveled/Lifted? If so, does it look "right"? I know nothing about lifting (or leveling) a truck and just want to be sure I should leave it as is. I suspect the last owner probably had new rims and tires of a larger size on it, but when they went to sell they put stock back on. (i'm guessing). If it looks okay to leave on, are there tires/rims that are reccomended with this type leveling/lift?
    Thank you!

I don't know a whole lot about suspension/lifts other than the research I have done myself. I do know that first picture is a spacer lift and in the 2nd pic there is a rough country shock.. Brace yourself, nobody likes rough country its like the k mart of offroad.

How can anyone verify if it's leveled without a picture showing the stance of your truck? Post a pic!

Its for sure lifted, a cheap lift but its not done bad. Its got spacers in the front and blocks in the rear under the leafs. Those rough country shocks are aftermarket and are kinda the budget brand. If it was the limited trim i have no idea what oem shocks it had, but i bet they were better than the rough country ones.

    Congrats on the truck tho!

It has a leveling kit- Strut spacer up front and lift block out back.

Leveled would just be the front is not lower than the rear. So like you add a one or two inch spacer in the front and leave the rear the original height to make it leveled.

So if I'm not looking to do a lot of off roading, are there suggestions on good quality shocks to replace the budget brand with?

Id just find some used stock ones from ebay. Your leaf springs should already be stock so you just need the front and rear shocks and then grab a new ubolt pair and nuts when you have the block removed. Those wont be too expensive you can snag em from the dealer.
    Front right
    Front left
    Rear

these are just examples that are used and i have no idea if these listings have every part included. If you order stuff make sure the front shocks include the coil part. Alot of them get sold with out the coils. Its possible the coils on your front suspension tho are from the original stock suspension that the previous owner swapped over tho so they could possibly be reused if you found some front ones with no coils.

This is a new-to-you truck; keep as it is for a while. Take things slow, no need to "correct" everything at once, or possibly anything at all. Nothing your vehicle has is going to give you any problems as long as you are not pushing the truck off road; with your lack of experience this shouldn't be a problem.

My thoughts are to get new tires after you wear out whatever is on the truck now. You can run 33" mud terrain 255/85R16 skinny tires with nothing more than an alignment with no rubbing with the stock rims and no lift. I view tires as a consumable and whatever you get it won't be the last - so there is no reason to believe whatever you do (within reason) will be a mistake, only a learning experience.

Hook up with people in your area for experiences and advice. Take a good look at what others have done to their trucks and just take it all in. What you see others doing in your presence will be the primary driving factor to what you will eventually want to do.

Just so I understand what I have on currently so I can start with a baseline, The front has toyota shocks
    Fron lift OEM2 20240922_141126.jpg
and the spacer thing on top
    Front Lift 20240922_141225.jpg
looks to be around 2" on that spacer
So, is the front "lifted" 2" based on this?

The rear has a block that looks to be around 2" as well and also has after market shocks (that I understand are considered to be crap).
    Rear lift 20240922_141410.jpg
But, does this mean the rear is also lifted 2" (or do the shocks make a difference here)?

When I'm ready, I'll likely replace the tires first (which are currently 265/60/18 Tires 20240921_154047.jpg (I believe were the stock wheels and tires). I would want to go larger on the tire but no additional changes to suspension (assuming it doesn't crap out on me before I go to get new tires). With the current setup and current stock wheels, would I be able to go with a 265/65/18 tire?

Thanks for all the help. As you can tell, I know NOTHING about pickups or lifting etc.

From what I’ve read, front spacer adds 2x the height of the spacer, so that’s a 3” front lift with your 1.5” spacer (removing the thickness of the coil bucket from your photo).

the rear is a 2” block lift that makes the truck “level” with no load.

You have a budget “lift”, but like other(s) have said, don’t rush out to remove it just because it’s cheap. If you drive it like a passenger car like most people with trucks, it’s fine.

One thing to be concerned about is the angle of the CV axles up front with that much lift - it may prematurely cause your boots to tear and eject the important grease.

18" wheels? Wow i didnt know that the limited came with those, and sweet you have the front stocks, yeah so its just a 2" lift all around. And i doubt the rear shocks are that bad but used rear stocks to match yours are not that expensive. But they should not work with the 2" block as they are prob too short. As for the tire size i bet someone can tell you if it fits. But yeah avoid rubbing at all costs, dont trim any plastic to get a tire to fit. If you want more tire you can always go down to a 17" or 16" wheel in the future.

Like Jason said the only concern is the height in the front. Anything above like 1.5-2" and it can add some stress on the parts up there but i mean you are prob fine. Driving on the road normally isnt putting it under too much load. Just keep that in mind.

you can search on this place to see pretty much any question you have on here also is prob already answered, or just use google and add tacoma world to the end of your search. And then obviously just ask here and people will help ya out.

If you live in the Midwest/east coast and don't do any real off-roading (forest roads doesn't count) then I would just keep the set up. It's perfectly fine for normal driving usage

3" may cause a lot of wheel well gap tho, i have a 1.5" lift in the front with 1" blocks in the rear and like 32" (in diameter) tires and it gives it a good lifted appearance. IMG_1915.jpg
Dont go blowing money into it now tho, just drive it for awhile and figure out what you want like the people are saying and then when your tax returns hit buy what you know you want lol.

And for your tire question i looked it up on here and i see a few people saying that 265/65/18 is the largest you can do with the stock limited 18" wheel with no rubbing. That will prob match or be slightly bigger than the ones in my pic.
