You may have to shop in a different price point (>$500) for a scanner.

Well truck got worse somehow. Long fuel trims are even higher than before up around 15 in idle. Checking for leaks again tomorrow but I don't think I have any. Anyone know if this cyl 6 advance is bad? Just seems odd to be so different from the rest. Screenshot_20240920-225236.png Screenshot_20240920-225230.png

it is within normal range. Here some notes. You need to test compression and do a leak down tests on bank 2 cylinders (6th maybe leaking). You can drive with P11F1, but P0304 will put you in limp mode all the time

Toyota fuel trims are normal between -15 to + 15%.

Still lacking a lot of the necessary tools to do these tests. But I think I'll have to just purchase them soon. Forced the truck to misfire twice on this last drive so I could see freeze frames. I noticed that sensor 2 always spikes very high impedance when it misfires. Does this tend to happen when you have a clogged cat? I'm assuming the truck has been running lean for a long time so would that cause clogged in the cat which will cause this impedance spike? Truck is getting basically no miles to the gallon, very poor acceleration, weird ticking noises from engine occasionally and can't handle high load. Let's assume that bank 2 is clogged. Since cyl 6 keeps having air fuel mix issue is the back pressure keeping the exhaust valve open? Screenshot_20240921-102648.png Screenshot_20240921-102735.png Screenshot_20240921-102836.png

OP, I know mine is a boosted second gen but I had failure of cyl 4 rings due to lean conditions. Ended up being a failing fuel pump while driving on highway at 12,000 feet above sea level. I’d replace fuel pump if you haven’t already. I also had a garbage tune that ran lean. It drove like crap for 3 months until it gave up the ghost. One other thing I remember was the oil smelling bad/looking pretty dark even after changing it within a few miles. This was a sign of oil and fuel mixing in an engine with bad ring lands. Hope this helps.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Rich conditions cause clogged cats (carbon deposits that can't burn off). Clogged cats don't magically unclog. Back pressure can't overcome valve springs. No miles to the gallon would suggest terribly rich, not lean. Lean burning will lead to burnt valves and damaged pistons/rings.

You said early on the shop determined you had damaged exhaust valve in #6, correct? They also said low compression on #6, right? IIRC, leakdown test pointed to leaky rings.

    Seems to be considerable inconsistency.

Correct, valves were replaced though as well as spark plugs and ignition coils. Cylinder 6 isn't misfiring though. Only cylinder 4 continues to misfire. Compression was good on cyl 4.

Small update. I'm now ignoring the air fuel mix issue on cylinder 6 since it can be driven as is and I'm focusing on the misfire in cylinder 4 causing limp mode. I took cylinder 4 plug and coil and swapped with cylinder 5. After a drive I was still getting cylinder 4 misfires. I took the intake off about a week ago to inspect the ACIS flapper to see if it had broke. I removed the motor from the intake and worried now that I didn't clock it correctly and maybe it snapped off plugging cylinder 4. I'm going to remove the intake again and inspect to double-check. I have a mechanic cousin coming this weekend to help me perform compression testing on cylinder 4. Hopefully can get down to the bottom of the misfires this week.

Toyota has many engineers that provide a reliable product. Obviously the mods you did do not. Live and learn

Thousands of Tacoma's with the same set up. I don't disagree with mods bringing reliability down but at no point do I blame Toyota or procharger. Im just trying to figure out what part of the motor is damaged.

Have you done a leak down yet?
Compression tests don’t tell the whole story when looking for odd things.
It might point you to a more specific area?
