Break in oil change worth doing

The new truck is turbo charged , 5 k would make much better sense .Just some friendly advise if you are keeping it long haul. But to each their own .

 

That is ironic since the BMW M cars still require a 1,200-mile oil change and differential fluid change.

 

Hit 1000 miles on mine last week. Did the first oil change last weekend.

 

I did it at 1k (analysis sent), 2k, and now at every 5k. Oil analysis was not awful, but did show expected metal and silicon. Glad I did it!

 

Since we're on the subject of oil changes. Does anyone have the part# for the metal oil filter housing? I want to get ride of the black plastic stock one and upgrade to the metal one on my next oil change. This is for the 3.5L V2 engine.

 

This for any vehicle.... dont buy into the 10k+ oil change interval stuff.

 

1K oil change is like having the $500K/$1M auto insurance policy vs min coverage. It doesn't cost much more, you don't plan to use it, but it's there if you need it.

in the case of the 1000-1500 oil change, manufacturing/assembly debris isn't in every truck, but we know it happens, and nobody knows if theirs is one. I did mine at 1200 and took the opp to change to Mobil1 (was on sale at Costco/Sam's for $33/6qt)

 

To me a 1k mile oil change is overkill, the engine is still breaking in. I’m waiting until 3k miles let all the debris get caught in the filter and finish allowing the engine to break in then change it out with amsoil signature series and an oem Toyota filter then continue to do 3k mile oil changes after that

 

Engine oil and engine filter is cheap! Spin bearing, burn bearing, the engine is fawked! Drop the oil pan, remove valve covers, see all crap, it is too late.

 

Confused. The filter is catching the inclusions… what exactly is the early change doing? Is the theory viscosity related?

 

Some manufacturers use oil additives and detergents to break-in oil as well. If the filter is catching visible junk, there's also all the small junk you can't see that quickly clogs the filter, as well as trace amounts that stay suspended. That's why some guys send their oil for testing and it does show higher lever of metals and stuff that seeped from new gaskets, grease, etc.

Manufacturing standards and tolerances are impeccable now. Its the 21st century. There's no risk of things happening like Porsche having a string of catastrophic IMS failures in mid 2000s due to manufacturing junk, and no risk of every 2022-2024 Tundra having mass engine recalls due to manufacturing junk.

If you take it as an old wives tale, move on cause there's nothing to see. Or do it out of superstition and fun of having a brand new car.

I haven’t had the tpms installed for 10 years.

 

I have changed my 2023 Taco oil at 616, 2664, and 5274 miles (so far) and sent samples to Blackstone each time. See attached.

 

I’d keep an eye on the oil change interval, especially with what you found. And that funnel tip is gold; I wish I’d known about those sooner too.

 

This is the way.

 

Seems stable - so maybe the first one wasn’t needed ?

I do mine every 500 miles. Get the nitrogen changed out at the same time.
