Ahhh the good old days of “just” 33s. Fruckin 35s want to rub everywhere even with cuts an hammering. But, damn she’s a sexy beast!

@Supr4Lo it took me a while but the Kendas are finally on. Thanks again!

Here is my new garage door clearance. Exactly 1 or 2 CH’s of space to the shark fin.

    IMG_7713.jpg

I can already understand this mentality. My first thought while still at the tire shop was “hmm 33s don’t look as big as I thought, wonder if I can squeeze a 34 in there.”

So… I bought fancy hubs with good bearings from a respected vendor here on TW. Put them on in January, bought them in August. One is bad. Really bad. Looked everywhere else because there was no way they were new. TW guy doesn’t want to deal with warranty says they only get a year.

Well, what are the options? Others with big tired don’t seem to complain about wheel bearings. The other is fine and my guess is I just got unlucky. Do I buyNAPA and just be happy. What says the hive mind

I’m there with the 35s. I look at it and think they just aren’t that big. Then I go try and climb in…

I can only say I have the 05_4x4 or whatever his name is hub bearings and I’ve had no problems. Everything I read on the forums says to go with his or go Napa. Nobody buys OEM because of the price but they are high quality. I bet if you calculate ROI the Napa units give the best return dollars/mile and reliability.

That's funny you mention that because on my 2nd gen Tacoma I also replaced both front bearings preventatively with the respected fellas bearings on here and then traded it not too long after but when my truck came up for sale on Facebook marketplace it said both front bearings had been replaced so that means the bearings didn't last very long.

I would guess the upper ball joints still have a little room at full droop, unless you're over 3" of lift.

UCAs won't affect ride quality, that's the job of the shocks and springs. They allow for alignment adjustment when you add lift.

I meant the uca is maxed. I don't think there's room left to straighten the ubj better.

I didn't get a Tundra for this reason.
It might've cleared the door but it wouldn't left room in my garage for anything else but vehicles.

Imagine buying a brand new truck, then getting home and realizing it doesn't fit in the garage.

OK everyone, looking for some input/ideas. The kid's car is taking a crap and he's finally open to buying a new vehicle. His mother and I have highly suggested AWD and he seems to be (finally) accepting the idea. We've also suggested a smaller SUV, he's somewhat resistant on that, likes his sedan. (I think he's afraid of bad gas mileage)

He took the rest of the week off because his car is presently sitting at work, won't start...battery is good, possibly the starter. So tomorrow we're going to hit some dealers to see what there is. I want him to look at the Subaru Crosstrek (maybe Impreza?), Toyota Rav4 (maybe Corolla, not AWD). I'm not familiar with Mazdas, Kias, Hondas, or Hyundais. He's not interested in Fords and I won't let him buy a GM product.

Any thoughts from the wiseasses, I mean wise people here on what to consider? My big concern with Subaru is the head gasket issues I've read about.

edit: local Subaru dealer has a fair stock of '24s still on the lot, which may get a better deal on. Toyota locally was limited stock.

Also, he wants to stay under $35k, but a little more wouldn't be completely out of the question.

He should take a look at the Subaru Impreza. It is exclusively hatchback as of a year or two ago. The base model actually has quite a few standard features and also is pretty damn affordable (affordable for a new car in these modern inflation filled times anyway) Still gets pretty good gas mileage too.

Subaru: oil consumption, head gaskets in the old days, questionable CVTs, otherwise pretty nice.

Mazda CX5 or whatever they are called now are usually solid.

I hate Ford and GM but my mom just bought a ‘24 Ford Maverick AWD under $35k. It might actually be the one vehicle of theirs I would look at.

I vote for a used Lexus IS350 F sport AWD.

We were just looking at CR-V's (again...) Rave 4 is good option.

Have Mazda's website up now, looking at the CX-30. Only 2 on dealers' lots.

    Sheep grease

285s fit with caster at +3 and no chopping.

Same. I am the most fluent in Star Wars

A torch will loosen it just fine. And some BG Enforce

Napa and AutoZone both work well. They're affordable, available, and don't forget the rear seal ($20)

New subies don't blow up like old ones. Stay AWAY from the Kia/Hyundai. Those will blow up and/or get stolen. And they're dreadful with crashes.

RAV4 is far superior to the overpriced CRV. you just don't get as much in a CRV for the money anymore, sadly.

Yous guys forgot the Germans. I may be biased but the wife and mother-in-law have Tiguans that I now service. Surprisingly comfy ride and capable enough in weather with decent tires.

Looking around, they don't get great gas mileage and can be kinda expensive for what you're getting.

With the crash course this evening, I guess we'll be looking at Subaru, Honda (only because the Subi dealer is Honda too), Toyota, and Mazda.

Going to have the Focus towed to my house, will see if I can figure out the problem. Then he'll sell it as I doubt there will be interest as a trade (it's a '12 SE, 96k miles).

Lamb juice? Sheep sheen? Ram’s blood?

285’s no clear mine without trimming. I don’t think I’m special but I did ride a short yellow bus once.

Agreed on CRV vs RAV4. Honda has been getting cheap and coasting on their name for a while. I have like 10 people in my family that own them, each generation has been less reliable/more finicky.

    IMG_7718.jpg

He already had a Ford Focus? In that case, as someone who also owned a ‘12 Focus SEL that left me stranded in the middle of an intersection due to their presto-disappearo-no-transmission-workee-o, then yeah disregard my suggestion on the Maverick. Blue ovals give me PTSD.

    Found On Road Dead. :bananadead:

    For Obvious Reasons: Don’t.
