    My goal was to get the biggest tire and rim combine under this truck that would not rub and that had the look I was going for “squared”. I rolled the dice and convinced myself that I had done my homework and the 9 ½ wide rims would work with the 275/40/19 front and rear. So, I ordered the 5 rims. I did 5 rims, so I would have a spare if anything happened over the timeframe of using these rims. I see so many people that don’t have a spare and the mess up one of their rims and can’t order a new one because they were discontinued. Only thing left now is to wait the 3 months for them to be delivered from Japan. When I received the rims, I opened only one rim to test fit some tires and hit the road so I could test in the real world. I have included some pictures as a comparison between the X-Runner rim and tire compared to the Enkei PF07 with the 275/40/19 tire combo. After a bit of test driving it seemed to be passing and I was so happy until I had a tight turn into a parking spot and here is where my heart broke… straight up rub on the lower DJM control arm in the back close to the firewall… all tire and no rim rub. If it was mild… maybe I could look past it but it was pretty bad for my taste. I tired a lower profile tire (a little too low for my taste) and it still rubbed. So, I put these rims up for sale. I have not sold yet and it will probably take a long time to find that right person looking for this rim in these specs but that is life. Please note that when I am using these buckets to get total offset comparisons that I am also using the same size piece of wood on top of the buckets to make a level surface because the bottom of the buckets by themselves would bend/flex depending on the weight and this will skew my results. The wood is much more ridged and less likely to bend/flex. For example, the 19 inch Enkei PF07 setup is much heavier than the 18 inch X-Runner setup... so if I placed these just on the bottom of the buckets the gap is not as noticeable because the heavier setup would bend the plastic more and not be as accurate.

    Well if you have not mounted a tire on the wheels and or even opened the boxes you should be able to exchange the wheels for the 9” wide wheels! Enkei national wheel warehouse is actually in Texas I believe around Dallas somewhere.
    Hell it be worth it to load the wheels in the back and drive to the warehouse and nicely ask…
    Even if you have to pay the shipping both ways I bet it will cost a lot less than selling and buying new!
    Used tires sell for less than half and wheels you be damn lucky to get 3/4 of what you paid for them!
    Trust me I’ve sold a lot of used tires & wheels.As a matter of fact I have a set of two 235 & two 245/50-18 Toyo Proxes Sport w/ less than a 1000 miles on them setting it the spare bedroom.
    I had them on my mostly stock 05. I was going to run these tires w/ a 3.58 TrueTrec gear. But the LS swapped Taco was geared to tall in first gear w/ the Tremec and a new 3.31 TrueTrec gear. So the 3.58 is going into the LS and I found another 3.73 to go in the 05. I will have the TrueTrec from the 3.31 swapped into the 3.73. So I went back to the Forged Rays and 245/50-19 rubber on 05 and 275/45-19’s on the 07 LS.
    I hope that all makes sense…

    Per the OP;

    “Pirelli Cinturato P7 245/50/18 tires”

    The only problem I found is w/ the DJM front lowing kit is that the 245/50-18’s will hit the top of the fender well on large G outs. That’s why I went with the 235/50-18’s in the front. Or you can run spacers under the front bump stops. With the 235/50-19’s I run I had all but 5 of the plastic rivets break out from a large pothole I didn’t see stuck between a convoy of 18 wheelers on I-40 in NM. I’m really shocked the wheel didn’t bend!

    Thanks
    Not meaning to hijack the thread but so much good insight here. I hope you dont mind a quick question on the oe 18". Are the oe tires 45,50 or 55 series? So much out there saying 45 series. I bought mine with 55 series on it.

    Drivers door jamb will have the OE tire size listed on a sticker. Along with pressures. 255/45/18 is the OE size for the x-runner.

    The current size tire I am running on the X-Runner rims and pictured above on the orange buckets is 245/50R/18 (104W XL) it is a Pirelli P Zero All Season. These tires currently rub on the rear of my truck only when a heavier load is in the bed and it is swatting a bit. My test is with 6 bags of 50 pound play sand, so around 300 pounds at the back of the bed next to the tailgate. My old tires that were worn out were 245/50R/18 (100W SL) Pirelli Cinturato P7 Run Flat. These tires would not rub when carrying a heavier load in the bed. I changed to the Pirelli P Zero tires for a few reasons...much cheaper and they were an XL load capacity instead of an SL load capacity. I wish I had done more research on the total tire specs before making this purchase. I just assumed that that same name brand tire and the same size tire... I shouldn't have an issues. Wrong. The big difference is the Pirelli P Zeros have a lot more bulge in the side walls and a slightly larger tread width causing it to rub. The bucket trick is good but can be misleading... what I mean by this is the Enkei PF07 sticks out 4mm (negative offset) more than the factory X-Runner rim. You could tell this if there was no tire on either rim when doing the bucket test but the straight side walls on the Enkei PF07 setup compared to the X-Runner rim with these Pirelli P Zero tires with the big side wall bulge.. the X-Runner rim setup actually sticks out more and rubs in the rear of the truck but the Enkei PF07 setup barely rubs under the same load in the same spot in the rear of the truck. So, the bucket trick is good for total offset in this case when tires are on the rims. I just use it as a baseline to help me decide where to go next.

    Did you choose the 50 series over the 45 for any particular reason?

    Not really. The donor 2006 X-Runner that I used for my rolling chassis swap (way back in this thread) already had the 245/50R/18 (100W SL) Pirelli Cinturato P7 Run Flat on it and the tires were pretty new... so I setup my suspension originally to those tire specs but now I am looking at changing to some 19 inch aftermarket rims but just trying to dialing in the right specs that work for what I like.

    But I guarantee you have a much smaller tire in diameter!! Probably something along the lines of 40 or 35 series…
    I fully understand wanting a square setup especially when you drive a lot of miles so the tires can be easily rotated.
    I’m pretty sure the OP and I like to have tire sidewall rather than running “Rubber Bands” for tires. Plus getting a bent wheel fixed from hitting a pot hole starts at a $150 plus per wheel plus unmounting, remounting & balancing around the Phoenix metro area. I like just a slight staggered setup for looks and most my tires have to be changed from age not mileage. Plus the alignment and tire pressure have to be spot on. I run 32 psi or more in the fronts and sometimes less than 20 psi in the rear unless I have something heavier than our two dogs or a bicycle in the back. We have a 60 gallon air compressor in the garage and more than a few good tire pressure gauges in the garage.

    I use this to help figure out offsets but there are many on the internet… I found that factory / OEM wheels have more offset / tuck under the fenders and I spend a lot of time researching OEM wheel offsets.
    As for the offset needed for a 9.5” wheel and say w/ a 275 tire to tuck under the rear of a 5 lug Tacoma is approximately a 48 offset unless you don’t mind not being able to adjust rear adjustable shocks. Then you should have a 18” or bigger wheel. But also remember that the Tacoma has a solid live rear axle on leaf springs so the axle will move a lot under side loads over 3” or more. Unless you install a Panhard bar to the rear diff.
    Don’t believe me adjust your side view mirrors so all you can see are the rear tires then get on a curvy road and watch!

    Yeah im running a 275/40 tire but they are far from rubber bands. I would say that it is "beefy fitment"

    Well, running a 35/40 sidewall with wider tires like a 275 or 285, is far from being a rubber band tire. Especially when you're running wide enough that the tires are squared off on the rims and not stretched. My 285/35/19 is no where near being a rubber band tire. Also note that due to the width and sidewall height, the overall diameter as compared to stock is much closer than you think.

    OEM sidewall at 245/45/18 is about 4.5" Height is 27".
    My 285/35/19 is a 3.9" sidewall. Height is 26.9".
    @GearHead899 with the 275/40/18 has about a 4.3" sidewall. Height is 26.7".
    245/50/18 is a 4.8" sidewall. Height is 27.6" and is too tall IMO. This is part of the rubbing issues.

    Exactly, my 275/40s on a 18x9.5 is pretty much the same exact height as the oem 18x8 with a 255/45

    Hmmm, your 275/40-18”=26.7 my front 255/45-19”=28”

    Some like Black trucks and some like White trucks. I like white and white is the number one selling color.
    What does this have to do with the price of tea in China? Nothing!! :confused: Or my taste is #1… :notsure: :boink:

    :thumbsup: There’s also one here! https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

    Hmmm, Ok your 26.7” tire is your choice but I prefer my 275/45-19”=28.78 or 28.8 rounded off. :hattip:
    Plus now I got the HP to turn them and still getting 21 mpg. :stirthepot:

    I really wanted 19s on my black truck but wasnt willing to pay the crazy difference in price on the wheels I wanted compared to the 18" prices lol
    Plus at my ride height I would have to go with a smaller side wall tire with a 19" wheel and I prefer to have some extra meat
