Mating connectors for Aux Switch Illumination tap

Connectors mate to Aux switch (15A circuit) to assemble illumination to any added switches without cutting, severing OEM wiring...(read NO 3M taps)

Not all trucks have Aux switches, so I’m making switch illumination harnesses from the cargo as a standalone product to make it more accessible to everyone. However, for the people with aux switches I’ve got someone testing this so you can convert the stock Aux switches to one with a symbol and whatever color you want, etc.

 

There are aftermarket switches that fit the empty slots the also use that green connector?

 

Yes — multiple pin outs available for the same cheap ass switch, though. Just have to be careful which one you purchase. I’ll try to update this thread after testing this weekend.

 

Mine didn't come with the switches. The wiring is there, but there's no relays for the aux power. I don't know if this is a standard practice or some production variant, but the people may also need relays to use those depending on how you wire it.

 

Same connector as J26 Aux switch
Smallest posi-tap would also work or even those terminals used to tap into fused power for dash cam. The ones that wedge between terminal and connector. Not my favorite but work. They need to be secured so they don't wiggle off.

 

If it's switch illumination tap (dimmable), why the ground?

 

The aftermarket switches have 2 grounds that are isolated. One for the symbol LED that should dim (variable ground) with the dash and one for the ON LED that should be non variable. The symbol LED receives juice from the dash circuit and the ON LED receives juice from the 12V+ source.

 

Have experimented with tying these grounds so they both dim?

 

I haven't. I'm sure it could be done, but kind of questionable if it means having a tough time seeing if a switch is on or off. I'll see if I can't get that tested over the weekend.

 

All Taco's have a Light Control Rheostat...

 

Do you sell these? Is this the easiest way for me to add a switch and this will give it illumination?

 

I think I’ve bugged you about this one too many times but are you saying we could just tap to the rheostat? So tap yellow to beige of rheostat with a t splice?

 

Yes, 1 & 6 pins.

 

That would just be for backlight illumination, and then for an ON light we would need to tap elsewhere? Or could you tap that negative with pin 1 as well?

edit* never mind I see in the diagram that white is routed to black.

so red just runs to a power source using add a fuse tap
