I've heard all my driving years to hit the deer, too many get in serious accidents trying to avoid a collision... Yes, glad you walked away.

Don't mean to make light of this subject, but I hope that you bought a lottery ticket that day. You were very lucky....or blessed...or both. I have investigated fatal vehicle accidents where contact/induced damage was but a small fraction of that which you experienced.

    Glad you are okay.

Dang! Glad to know that you’re okay! I just installed a dash camera because I was seeing more and more crappy drivers.

Glad you are ok. Truck can be replaced.

I had something similar happen in 94 when I was stationed on Oahu. Woman came over into my lane. I could either go right into the car next to me or hit her. I decided to stay in my lane and hit her. If I would have went right I would have hit a car with two small kids in the back in car seats. Never remember deciding to do it. It just happened.

Don't swerve, just let them hit you. I thought my mom was going to kill her entire family, on multiple occasions, to save the life of a squirrel or pet. I too had some idiot on Oahu hit me while forcing herself over instead of braking and getting behind me. I learned what "no fault state" meant that day; ridiculous idea that forces everyone to carry full coverage, otherwise insurance company will never pay out. The insurance companies in bed with politicians on that one; they claim it "saves money" but for who? I've carried insurance in FL and HI, both "no fault", and my insurance was MUCH higher there than everywhere else.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Now that is a properly written off Tacoma. Mine was still driveable (sortof) and was written off with no air bag deployments and zero fluids leaking. Pretty sure a new steering rack would have had it road worthy again. Probably go through a lot of front tires though. lol

Glad you are ok. I must admit, I'm amazed at the level of damage to some of the Tacomas posted here where the driver and passengers walk away without serious injury......Remarkable!

The steering wheel airbag did that I'm sure without it I'm positive it would have been a lot worse

    What he said below.
How fast were you going? Did the other car have any damage, or stop? Some dumbass wants the part of the road I'm occupying, he's going to have to move me to get it. It's one of those things you don't have time to think about, really, but let the other guy share in the damage if he is going to mess things up for you.

I was amazed I walked away, to be honest. I've seen a number of car wrecks when I was a Paramedic many years ago. The photos don't show all the damage on the left side. The protection the seatbelt, airbags, and the roll cage Tacoma/Toyota have is amazing.

I had the cruise set at 62 mph. Everything happened so fast that I wasn't able to slow down, much less than that, I'm sure.
