My brain is starting to map to the shift points (15, 25, 35) and what speeds it will run EV mode. It will crawl through my neighborhood and the park during my daily runs solely on EV. Very often it will run EV mode just coasting to lights or medium speed downhills. This is on ECO mode.

Yeah. And it’s oddly satisfying when you can skate just under the load required to start the engine lol.. not sure why but it’s fun and kind of a game for me. The battery torque hit up front is what gives me confidence for heavy tire management.

Update on ECO. So I tried to light foot it and use electric mode when possible taking my son to school - 10 mile trip with stop and go mixed into highway, I got really great mileage. But you need to be driving very gently, so not sure how often this will happen. If I drive without really thinking about it it’s closer to 19-20.

FYI, you're going to want to do the math yourself over a few tanks to see what your fuel economy really is. The fuel economy indicators in cars have been notoriously optimistic for decades. Hell, my current car has an option in a secret settings menu to apply a "correction factor" to the fuel economy indicator. You can make it say almost anything you want by twiddling that setting. It was off by almost 15% when I first got the car. I've got it dialed in pretty close now, but I both had to figure out that it was wrong and figure out that I even could fix it.

This is amazing - I'm about to do my first fuel-up and will switch to eco mode. Normal mode has been a bit under part sitting at 15.5mpg LOL. It's still better than my 5th gen 4runner with load C 33's

You need to drive super light to see those numbers. That said I drove home from work yesterday and got 22 without even paying attention.

I am getting 20+ MPG in stop /start in-town traffic very easily in eco mode. The key is using hybrid battery mode, if you’ve got that option, any chance you can during slow crawls in traffic, dropping off your kids in the school line, etc. All that adds up and uses zero fuel. My next test will be this weekend driving about 400 miles on the freeway. I’m not sure highway driving will be better because it uses battery much less but we’ll see.

I plan to put a crap ton of miles on this Tacoma — let’s see if she holds up! Let the haters hate baby.

Youll probably find better mileage after you put more miles on it.

Mine at least seemed to do better after about 5k

I’m on my 2nd fill up and my drive to work is about 25 minutes and so far I’m averaging 25 mpg in eco and using cruise as much as I can.

When I picked up my hybrid it was a 300 mile road trip back home and I averaged 21mpg. Now I’m mainly city driving and I’m still 21mpg because the battery kicks in often.

I am actually really surprised as to how easy it is for me to exceed 25 miles per gallon in Eco mode. I am not sure if it’s because the vehicle is breaking in or if it’s just that I’m better at controlling the throttle subconsciously but like I’m getting really amazing mileage. Part of it may be that I know how to get it into battery only mode when coasting or inching along in traffic / pick up line at school / drive through etc. I also don’t lay into throttle unless needed.

Which mode is recommended for 4H off-road use? Let's say you are in ECO but flip to 4H. Does it's automatically switch to normal?

I used to routinely hit 50mpg in my old Civic driving like this. Those were the days. 500 mile range on the little 13 gallon tank.
