For those of you with the Magnuson and a regear I am looking for some advice. I just ordered the supercharger and I plan on running the 87mm pulley with an OTT tune. From everything I read even with the SC regearing really takes it to the next level. The truck has a 3.5 inch lift with 275’s and the only extra weight is a leer cap. I don’t have any intention of adding more weight or going with bigger tires and the only thing I tow is a small boat and a utility trailer. It’s my daily driver and I want it to have good manners on the road. Would it make more sense for me to go with the 4.88’s and not the 5.29’s?

Can't comment on the regear, but I can give a thumbs up on the 87mm pulley and OTT tune. Just got my truck swapped over to the 87mm and OTT tune last weekend and I am quite happy with it. I was already happy with the OTT tune vs stock maggy tune with the default 90mm, but the 87 and refactored tune are adding just that little extra. Have fun!

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
I went with 5.29 gears and don't regret it. Tons of low end torque, really complements the SC. Though keep in mind you will be at a higher RPM on the highway. On 33" tires it runs at about 2200RPM at 70MPH (Real speed is about 73MPH due to tires) in 6th gear. Offroading is MUCH better with 5.29 gears, makes crawling so much better. Also the regear reduces the strain on the engine and drivetrain due to the added power of the SC so in theory should extend life of these these components.

Ive only had my SC installed for the past 5 days and loaded OTT tune 90mm pulley tune yesterday morning so i only have around 280 miles on the tune. (i think im done changing things) rest of my specs are below tire size not alot of weight etc. I cant imagine needing more gearing than 4L currently provides. Normal driving it feels effortless to 95mph but my tire balance shows its ass above 80. During that drive i got 18mpg (not that it matters and i wasnt going slow)

That’s good to hear! I am going to order the 87mm pulley so I have it for the OTT tune. The supercharger isn’t supposed to ship until the end of October unfortunately. Did you order your pulley right from Magnuson?

I think I’ll run the supercharger for a while with stock gearing and see how I like it. I’ve just seen it recommended enough that I wanted to explore my options.

There was a few of us that did way back. It's obviously not recommended but I and the others didn't see any ill effects. It's all in this thread somewhere.

Good deal thanks for the info. I sat down and read this entire thread at one point but it’s A LOT of information to digest haha.

I ordered directly from Mag, yes. Keep in mind that the OTT tune will need to be adjusted for the 87. John is pretty good in communication, and if you plan on going 87 perhaps you just get your tune from OTT out of the gate with 87 and save yourself the $100 to modify it down the road.

Also something to keep in mind, I swapped my OEM battery to an AGM one and had John tune that in for me as well with my flash.

I reached out to him a few days ago and he recommended I run the stock Magnuson tune for at least 100 miles. After that I’m going to install the 87mm pulley and have it tuned for that right out of the gate. I can’t wait! I wish I would have just ordered my SC from URD in the first place they have it right in stock.

I went with 488's because I am not planning to run anything bigger than a 33 and mine is just a street princess. Tons of low end torque with the 488's. The maggy seems to like it too. I stayed away from the 529's because of the high RPM thing and I heard that 488's are more for stock type applications which is my case. Good luck! P.S. The OTT is ok, but make sure you try different settings before sticking with one for good.

Does anyone else feel even before boost kicks in that you're getting more torque?

Sounds like we have a similar setup! I’ll probably go with the 4.88’s for the same reasons as you.

I ordered mine from Tacoma Beast. There is a 6 week wait time and I paid shipping. I tried canceling my order so I could buy one elsewhere and they wouldn’t let me without paying a huge cancellation fee. I should have done more research because I could have saved money and already had it by now.

Bought from vivid racing, free shipping. The woman at magnuson finally offered me free shipping after haggling with her for a bit but i didnt really like that i had to pry it away from her so i didnt give her the sale. Mine came in 3 weeks after being told 6 week wait.

Hopefully that will be the case for me too. I have been thinking about doing it for so long and now that I finally pulled the trigger I’m ready to get it installed!
