285/75r17 on a 2nd Gen!

Just want to put information out there as I have extensively looked for info on peeps running 285/75r17 on their 2nd gen. From what I have found there is lots of information out there for 285/75r16s and 285/70r17 but not the next size up.

This is a catalogue of my experience with the 285/75r17s so anyone out there can have just a little bit more info to make their decision.

Last night was install on some Toyo Open Country AT3s in 285/75r17. Putting them on for the first time they fill the wheel wells NICELY. Oh so very nice.

When I went to check steering at full lock yes I will need a cab mount chop, a fairly aggressive one. I just had surgery so when I can actually drive next week I will take it to get done. I don't think I will need to worry about pinch weld quite yet but I am prepared to work on that as well.

As I continue on this journey I will be sure to update.

Nice wheels! I was running 285/75/17's on a zero offset wheel for a while. Great size tire.

 

I should be good with my fenders. I have quite a bit of caster that pushes my wheels forward. Looks like cmc is all I will need. For some peace of mind I’ll probably end up cutting down the rear corner of my fenders.

 

Yes, I have same size tire, stock rim spydertrax spacer. When aired down rubs pretty hard. I have even broken snaps of fender flare when offroading

 

I ran this size for the last few years. You will need to trim a lot of plastic, hammer the pinch weld, and lose a lot of mpgs

 

My setup 285/75/17 BFG KO2's on Method 701's 17x8.5 0 offset. No body mount trimming needed. Bumper cover yes but that will go away shortly. How is it that no body mount trimming was needed. Tacoma 05-23 Lower Arm Pivots – JD Fabrication Tacoma 05-15 Upper Arm – JD Fabrication this is how. Soon to go to the 2.25" over setup. Tacoma 05-15 6 lug 2.25" long travel kit – JD Fabrication but there is also other JDFab components as well but not effecting the ability to fit 285/75/17. I will also likely be moving up to 35x11.5x17 KO3's when available but will also consider Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T if they do a 35x11.5x17. They say they are looking at creating additional sizes than what they currently do.

 

Here’s mine with 285/75R17 and the JD +2.25 kit with stock lower pivots, and a 1.5” rear AAL

 

Why didn't you do the lower pivots? I feel that it is the best way to address the problems with the foundation to the entire front suspension. Is there a supercharger under the hood?

 

I probably will eventually, but I like to tinker and I’ve been changing things slowly..

There is a Borgwarner EFR 6258 under the hood currently
