Possible Rear Main Seal Leak

2021 TRD OR, 29k miles, I've owned it for about two months, on-road only, and a prior lease vehicle, so I presume (dangerous, I know), it spent most time on-road before, too. All stock engine/drive components.

Found this when swapping out the stock skid for the TRD skid. What caught my eye was a bit of oil on transfer case skid, so I poked around and found this. Doesn't look fresh, but with such low mileage, I wouldn't have expected to see it at all. I have an appointment w/the dealer (since it's still under warranty), but thought I'd toss it to the group to see if anyone had any thoughts.


Apparent source. I poked around the area and didn't see any evidence of it having dripped down from higher up.


Some light residue on the cross member immediately below it.

 

Yep, looks like a rear main leak.

 

Unfortunately, I agree. That’s what it looks like

huge job, but actually fun IMO

 

Worst part of that whole job, the starter and torque converter bolts.

 

Well, boo. Thankful it's under warranty, but disconcerting that it's leaking at all.

That's why cars come with a warranty. No parts manufacturer is perfect. They all have a built in failure tolerance. I wouldn't sweat it.

Update: took it to the dealership, confirmed it's a rear main seal leak. Warranty will cover it, and should get it back in 1-2 days.
