I have a 2017 TRD Off Road with the non JBL sound system. I have been considering buying the OEM Audio Plus Reference kit with single subwoofer, but came across the Trail Grid Pro plug and play Alpine system. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with both? Do you think the OEM Audio Plus is worth the extra money? I have seen that people say that it is a well balanced system and easy to install, but I like that the Trail Grid Pro system is significantly less expensive. Here is a link to both:

    https://oemaudioplus.com/product/toyota-tacoma-dbl-cab-16-base/

    https://trailgridpro.com/products/a...hannel-amp-powered-subwoofer-kit-16-23-tacoma

I like the plug and play aspect of both since I have never installed an audio system before, but I have soldered and worked with wiring before. I would be open to building a simple system myself if people think that it would be the better route to go versus the both the Trail Grid and OEM Audio Plus

The trail grid pro system will give more volume and a bump in bass
The OEM system will give you both but more overall balance of sound . But here’s the thing you can build a nice system for the OEM price . Crutchfield can set you up with lots of good stuff ., and if your afraid if certain wiring they can do a head unit that’s plug and play. For an extra charge .
Change out your speakers ( same work ) buy a 5 channel amp and a sub to go in your rear passenger bin and your good to go
I suggest separates up front ( dash speaker and door speaker ) , door speaker s rear doors
I think Skar makes a box for our truck now , pick a nice 10 inch woofer

I haven't seen this before, don't see anything in the audio section about it, so I am curious now too. I was pretty set on budgeting for the OEM audio one but this looks like a potentially good contender for simplicity if it sounds decent.

I can't say on the TrailGrid Pro, but I have the OEM Audio Plus system with the single sub. I'm no audiophile but I find the sound is very clear and it bumps pretty good. I have the Bass level set to a little bit past halway and the rear view mirror will twerk like Cardi B

Thanks for the advice. I will do some research and decide.

It just seems like there are pros and cons to all three. People seem to love the OEM Audio and I like that it is designed for the truck and I don't have to worry about tuning anything. I like that the TrailGrid Alpine system is cheaper and frees up money to add in a new head unit as well. I do think building my own system would be fun, but I need to research and learn more.

    I did a Avic 8600 Nex Pioneer
4 channel audio control micro amp
    Audio control mono micro amp
10 inch sub JL in a box behind rear passenger seat
Coax speakers in rear doors Alpine
    Separates up front alpine
    All from crutchfield
Super clean sound and really nice . It makes me want to drive the car just because of the system lol

How much did all of that cost you? And how would the sound quality of your custom made system stack up against the OEM or Trail Grid Pro kits?

I’ve got the complete OEM Audio plus system with the 8” sub. The 6MT pro’s do not come with the JBL system. Decided on this kit as I wanted a balanced system that was a seamless install and retained the factory head unit. Did the install myself in a day including sound deadening in the doors and back wall of the cab. Upgrading the sound system certainly be done with other components, lots of info on TW. The “all in one box” plug and play made it an easy decision for me. As far as how it sounds, I dig it - No regrets at all. Enough bass, the mids and highs are awesome. Great soundstage as well. Whichever way you go I’d sound deaden the doors / back of cab.

    Head unit 800 ish
Jl sub ( if you go that route expensive ) 900 there are other ways and still good bass for much less
    Amps about 600
Speakers 400ish and then cables and maestro
It adds up for sure. I will say you can put together a system that’s good for less with some thought .
A good head unit is important
Sub / you could go with a Rockford sub in a box that will fit
Amps you could do a 5 channel kicker or alpine ,and save some there
    Speakers there are tons around

OP did you pull the trigger on one of these? I am seriously considering the Focal speaker bundle from Trail Grid and either the Alpine 4 channel amp and powered sub kit from them or just getting a nicer amp from crutchfield with the plan to add a nicer sub / sub box in the future. If you went with the trail grid setup very interested to hear your opinion on the sound quality from that amp and sub. Thanks
