450LB is heavy but less than 600!

I do really like that BMW.... that's tempting though not sure about reliability. Friend bought a low mileage 2016 GS a few months ago and it blew up on a cross country ride two weeks ago... kind of nervous with BMWs haha.

It's a rotax single, from what I've heard they're pretty bulletproof. I have almost 50K on my rotax twin bmw.

Ugh. Looking through the SF craigslist makes me wish I lived in a bigger city, so many options. My local craigslist has 5 bikes listed, one of which is mine. (and yeah, I know noone uses craigslist anymore and its all about FB marketplace now)

    This could work:
    https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/d/santa-rosa-2008-husqvarna-te610/7786175361.html

I wish this was closer so I could have a spare engine and new shock for my F800..

    Clean looking DRZ400

More tame version of an F800.. 2010's are still a rotax engine, only issues are the stator can overheat, but it's easy to tell when that is coming on, cast wheels but they'd be sturdy enough and no tubes to deal with

Yeah those G650's are slept on for their purpose.

Oooo yeah older vstrom 650 would be a great option, those can be had CHEAP and are quite reliable.

Any small bike is always more fun offroad.

But considering what I've done on the WABDR I would expect any adventure bike could do fine with an appropriate rider. Loose/deep gravel or sand and mud would be the biggest worries imo.

Ive slabbed my drz 8hrs on highways in a single day. It does fine. Itd be a solid bike for a bdr and within your 4k budget. 500 would always be my choice in that bike size category but outside 4k

Welp the bike is setup and I'm packed and ready to go! Got 590 miles to do starting tomorrow at 6am. I'm doing the adventure palooza North route with two of my buddies. Was hopeful they would bring dirtbikes but they wanna bring both the t7's so I'll be alone on that part haha.

Good luck and ride safe! 590 miles on that should be a treat. If you can do that an IBA cert ride should be cake for you.

Will do! It's 590 miles of gravel roads unmaintained roads and dirt. The route we chose doesn't have loads of single track but is a more scenic route.
Haha that is possible but to do that I'll for sure need a better seat on the bolt! Hell idk how my ass is going to survive this trip on this bike it's seat is pretty stiff!

I’m thinking a crf450rl would fit on a front mounted 2” carrier better than the T7. Although I love the T7, it’s hard on tires.

DRZ's are pretty cheap, I'd probably end up on a DRZ400S.

What he said. If you're ok and the trucks driveable, call your ins. co. and send them the pics and carry on. It definitely sucks, but consider it the first scratch. Now go ride and you'll feel better. It'll still be damaged when you get back. If you bail now, then it's damaged with no trip.

Ya it really does! Only had it like 3 weeks now !
It is I drove it home. I would have carried on but the gf is the one who was gonna drive it home and she wasn't comfortable doing it damaged.
Yuuup and that is true haha
I'm going to try and get with the group at a midway point. The gf wasn't comfortable driving it home damaged since she was shaken up so just opted to drive it back home and try tomorrow to join the group.

It's only a flesh wound......Sucks to see this but better to hit the stupid thing in the truck than on the bike. DAMHIK.

Friend of mine hit one yesterday morning on his BMW GS in CO. First deer strike for him, he went down but was unhurt thanks to proper riding gear. Deer was killed but it broke an oil cooler line and bike is not ridable. Another Iron Butt rider drove 6 hours round trip to pick him and his bike up and get him to a BMW dealership for possible repairs.

Yup still sucks only had this truck for what 2-3 weeks now? After taking a look at it in better light.

    Grill is broken
Blue headlight shroud is broken on passenger side
Bumper is bent it seems to be angled odd now
    Bumper plastic is broken
Hood is shifted to the passenger side
    Passenger headlight is wiggly now
Trans oil cooler is bent and all the mounting hardware shattered it is now free floating
    AC condenser is bent
Radiator looks bent but isn't leaking thankfully
Lots of plastic and some thin metal is bent/ broken behind the grill

I think that's everything? But we were both fine but it scared the crap out of her since it was on her side so she was shaken the entire drive home.

Ya thankfully!. I've had a few close calls with deers and bikes but man hitting one sounds not fun! Glad he was okay!

    That's what insurance is for.

I've driven so many nights that I'm surprised I've only had the one run-in with deer.

Agreed I've worked 2nd for 10 years and had many close calls but nothing has happened thankfully.

Agreed I gotta call them this morning and get that started before I go out and mess with the bike.

Which one the topic of the bike now has an odd worble sound? But here is the odd part .. only in 5-6th gear and only at a certain rpm and it goes away if you speed up or slow down?? The bike has like 6ish hours on it
