My 2019 SR5 has no car play. I don’t want to spend a ton of money trying to retrofit a new screen. So I found this dash mount screen on social media. Wondering what everyone else without CarPlay uses or bought for their truck.

I changed my head unit . It really wasn’t a bid deal , plus as a bonus have much better sound now, along with the usual car play advantages

I changed my head unit to the 2020+ version and it's been great. Personally I'd be a little concerned about having 2 screens to pay attention to, the longevity of those devices (they all seem cheaply made), and the screen being positioned right in the middle of the already narrow field of view from the windshield.

I paid $500 for my 2020+ headunit, plus $125 for the transplant cable that made it plug and play. I have seen some 2020+ headunits on Facebook marketplace for much less though. If you're willing to wait a little bit, I think going the replacement route is the way to go and definitely worth the wait.

For like $50 more dollars you can get an Alpine Ilx -w670, and probably a much better experience. Had one in my commuter car and it’s a great, basic CarPlay unit.

On my daughters advice I 'connected' up with car-play on my 2021.
I hate it. And try as I may I can't turn the daum thing off.

Lol. Go into your phone settings in the CarPlay section and delete the Tacoma from it. Or go into the radio projection settings and turn off CarPlay.

I don’t know what there is to hate about it; ability to see maps visually.

Maybe he wants to plug it in for USB audio? I don’t know, I would. But I use CarPlay.

I enjoy it a lot. It seems to lag a bit when the truck first starts, but once its up and connected there are zero issues. One can easily go back and forth from the original display to the Carplay by holding the home button.

EDIT: If one wants to keep their XM module they'll have to reach out to the company after purchase. One of the ribbon cables isn't long enough to connect. They don't offer it as an option before purchase. I just got rid of mine though. Just a heads up.

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
@MandoTaco203 I had one like that one in the ebay link for a few months but I wasn't a big fan of it and ended putting my stock one back for now. It was too late to return it so it's sitting here back in the original box. It does wireless Android Auto and CarPlay. If you think you might be interested send me a private message and I'll send you a link to the exact one I've got and send some pics.
