Neither of those are in there. You could pull the EFI fuses in the engine bay but they'll clear your computers learned trims :/

Ah dang. So it's going to have to run from the main fuesbox back to the cab with a switch. Bummer. I'll dig around and see if I can find a wiring diagram and put a plan in place while I replace the ignition system this weekend.

Fuel pump circuit has a fuse yeah? That's what I'm looking for. Might take a peak in the fuse box at lunch. I guess I could do that if I park it somewhere sketch for a bit, but a pain in the ass to do. Luckily my truck is usually parked behind locked gates at work and home.

It doesn't, you need to put a switch inline to the coil side of the circuit opening relay, which is in the cab already.

You wouldn't happen to have a wiring diagram would you? Couldn't come up with much on a quick search this morning.

@m3bassman, the circuit opening relay is hanging off the dashbar up above the steering column to the drivers side. Interrupt the white/red wire with a regular spst switch before it branches off to the two pins on the circuit opening relay and it'll kill the fuel pump power and the 12v relay coil pwr to the fuel pump pin on the ECU, engine won't start.

@m3bassman Here is a full engine wiring diagram for a 2001 5VZ taco incase you want to get fancier or maybe you'll find something simpler.

That's perfect. I'll have to dig in more after work. The other option I think is interrupting the black wire coming out the back of the ignition switch. I would assume that given a bit of time that one's easier to find vs the fuel pump side will let it crank and crank and seem more broken than killed. Plus cranking is what woke me up today to shoo off the meathead.

I looked at this a bit more, is the reason to hit the wht/red and not the blue is since the blue is the main power this higher voltage?

You could interrupt that if you wanted I suppose. That blue runs down and actually junctions right under the drivers seat before going under the cab to the back. Plenty of ways to skin a cat I suppose here. Shame toyota doesn't actually use a dedicated fuel pump fuse, the Circuit Opening Relay is fed off the main EFI circuit. No matter what since you're interrupting 12v anywhere in the circuit use a 20a capable switch.

Is it in the bundle under the plastic kickplate a long the rocker? Could be a bit clever to tap in there and not have to pull the gauge cluster. If I pull the cluster then I'll also be trying to fix the gas gauge, but until I understand what needs fixed there I don't want to pull it. Could replace my flickering LEDs too I suppose.

You don't need to pull the cluster to do either method, just drop the knee panel and you can unplug the circuit opening relay and the harness will reach out far enough to work on it. Circuit opening relay is easy to identify, it's bright green/teal

fuel pump wire is also running under the plastic kick guard in the driver door sill, not a great place to hide a switch though

    @Bandido

    This just came in

I had made a remark about not needing to use "lasers" to zero my torch in any specific area; I did mention how it can be really beneficial for others though so I wasn't completely shutting out the idea

Guy who makes these decided to turn me onto them and offer me one for free

    20240927_090630.jpg

Initial impressions, it feels stout and I'm digging it

I still don't care for the laser idea but I'll try it; his mount includes two lasers for attaching to the mount as well as a small power supply with on/off switch

    20240927_090837.jpg

The one thing I do like is that he makes these mounts for specific size torches

He mentioned the added stress on torch heads when using Langmuir's V style clamp; I never had issues myself but others have mistakenly tightened their clamps a tad too much causing a failure to fire

Not that this isn't avoidable, it is. Don't tighten that shit like a gorilla

    20240927_090756.jpg

    Here's the new mount

    20240927_090811.jpg

Once the table is ready to go I'll use this mount and see how those lasers work out

I have an idea with what I want to do but not gonna post it here. Tapping into it there isn't a bad option for what I'm thinking.
