Honestly, even gasoline will run out eventually. A bicycle will be the best vehicle for SHTF situations.

I wouldn't make it 5 miles on a bicycle - either break my neck or have a .

 

I remember why I hate running a lathe. Boss man ask me if I could do a few parts on it, simple enough. I ran a lathe for a couple years, way back.

For some reason the chuck has about .003” run out. I clamped a piece in it and bored the jaws….twice…no help.

I shimmed two of the jaws and got the part to run close, the tubing is .004” undersized on the ID. The tolerance is +.001”, -.000” on the print.


Bored the first piece, dead on. Turned the OD, needed .0015” off of it, I moved it .001”…….it took .008”. Dead.



Started over, can’t get it to run true even with shims. Bored a little, dead.





I said fine, I’ll make it from solid. Broke a 9/16” drill bit in 3 1/2” deep.




Think I’ll take a break, until Monday. Whew.

 

Speaking for him, Destin is about 30-40 miles east of me, right on the coast. It’s blue sky and sunshine here now. Surf is up on the beaches.

That's exactly how I walked around the bay too, hands behind the back, not touching a single thing that wasn't my equipment. No way I'm getting accused of damaging a 5 billion dollar satellite....cover your keyster always....
