Is anyone running heavier weight oil in the v6? 0w20 just seems a little light.

    Yes, some have.
And for no valid reason in my opinion.

    I'd recommend sticking to 0w-20.

I only asked because i read an article about low speed preignition on direct injection vehicles and it said the lower viscocity oils played a part in it.

On a serious note, I've heard 0w-20 is recommend for fuel economy ratings. Whatever the owners manual recommends is what I'd use.

Mainly occurs in Turbo charged DI engines.
The 3.5 doesn't have this issue. It doesn't have a turbo and cylinder pressure is not an issue.

    Another Friday thread!!!!

I mean, why not try what internet trolls do, instead of what the manufacturer recommends....

    EPA says 0w-20....

Manufacturer says anything from 0w-20 to 15w-40

Toyota is more worried about meeting epa regulations than longevity past the warranty period

For those interested, research what can happen in a VVT oil actuated engine running a heavier oil.

Are you going to get timing codes in a 2GR? Probably not. (like 99.999 it wont happen)
But one needs to know what consequences can happen if they give bad information.

Can you post a link to the thread? Thanks.

Can you point to a place where Toyota says that a heavier oil, say 5W-30 is OK in a 3.5?
