Hey @Squirt , pay attention

    Story Time with Gritto

    Cross dominance is not uncommon.
It is also possible to have no strong eye dominance.

    That's me.
Left eye 20/15, right eye 20/20... last I had it checked.
    Right handed.
That left eye would unexpectedly take over from time to time depending on target presentation.
(With age came presbyopia, eyes can't adjust adequately for anything close up. Hence reading glasses. But that's another thing entirely)..

    There are ways to adapt...

I used to shoot Trap competitively, so my observations will be mainly on that:

    1) Many trapshooters (good ones, too) shoot one-eyed. Dan Bonillas, long time multiple ATA champion, is one.

    2) Some shooters say it's enough for them to slightly close the offside dominant eye. Keeping the dominant eye fully shut is, I've found, rather fatiguing.

    3) Learn to shoot from the dominant eye side.

    4) Wear shooting glasses with a small translucent dot.

#4 is what worked best for me.
You mount your trapgun (consistent mount is of utmost importance in trap).
Have a buddy line up the front sight with the pupil of the dominant off eye and mark the center on your glasses with a sharpie.
Put a small piece of scotch tape there, the smallest that will still do the job.
My own refinement was to cut a round dot using a 1/2" washer and exacto knife.

The point is, you still get the benefit of two-eyed depth perception.
As the front sight on your trapgun closes on the target, the offside dominant eye is obscured, preventing it from taking over.

Without this, some two-eye trapshooters with weak dominance will unexpectedly shoot beside the target.
They will swear they were on it and not know why they missed.
Most of these shooters end up shooting one-eyed, along with those strongly cross-dominant.
But I'm here to tell you, the dot can work for some...

I write the above to, I hope, provide a little insight into the problem.
Obviously, rifle and handgun shooting require something different.
    Forget the dot for these.

With a rifle, it's comparatively easy.
You can shoot from the dominant eye side, and IMO it's easier (with a little practice) to switch than with trapshooting
Most rifle shooters just close the offside eye.
They lose the advantage of depth perception, but most of them ain't shooting (or hitting) a moving target :p
With an optic it's easier, you have the reticle to prevent your offside eye trying to steal focus.
If it drifts, blink the offside eye.

    With a handgun, you can...
Just line up the sights to the dominant offside eye. This works better with Isosceles stance than Weaver stance.
    Switch trigger hand.
Either way, practice is required to ingrain it.
More practice, lots more, to get good.

Me too… our guy said notch of the panhandle… I looked ad that’s Destin to me. Apparently there’s a more prominent notch. I hate (but respect) that he was so very accurate. Most weatherguessers don’t know if it’s raining. The old ones get called out when there’s concern. We used to laugh when our resident guy would come out with his rolling chalkboard to explain what was gonna happen…

Well, except for the 300 winmag. That one's got an ancient scope on it.

I'm thinking of putting laser on my semiauto pistol.

    Sensible :fistbump:

I have a Viridian green laser for my Walther.
It was damn pricey when I got it 10 odd years ago.
Green is far more visible in daylight, and startling in a darkened room.

I'm of two minds about it.
It radically changes the balance of the handgun, though I'm generally more accurate with nose heavy firearms.
OTOH, any intruder is gonna get very disoriented when I paint him with it on Strobe

Yea, yesterday I was on a road trip and thought the sugarcane looked shorter than it should be this time of year (they harvesting till Nov). Realized it was all laying on its side from Francis and it had just turned up from the next isle over. My grandmother used to say that makes it muddy and much more time consuming to process.
