TV show "Top Gear" ... one of their "special expeditions" has their cheap second-hand cars driving across Africa. After crossing a small river and the cars filling with water, the "guides" showed them how to remove the water ... 2 or 3 shots through the floorboards with a rifle.

If I remember correctly, gun shot damage is only covered under warrant on the Outdoor Tacoma

Like.... He was changing uppers in the truck, didn't clear the gun, you drove it with a hole in the transmission cooler line ....

For fucks sake. All of you (in the op post) need to sit the fuck down and seriously reevaluate your lives.

Me and a few of the others that have actually taken this post serious. Are still needing to know what line was severed, and where the coolant was added.

Because I’ve looked at all the diagrams, and there’s no coolant line underneath the truck where OP says.

I think he filled the coolant reservoir up to max.
And the transmission is low……..on ATF fluid.

Correct, the transmission cooler line brings ATF to the secondary cooler up front. If he didnt replace that line and drain and fill ATF and do a level check..... He's toast.

For those that missed it. OP updated his post as to HOW it happened.
Not that it really matters. It only matters if others learn from it.
A mistake was made, OP knows HOW the mistake was made.
He and the passenger learned from it.

The only thing I disagree with is "having it hit his leg or foot".
Brother, you NEVER want to be shot. Gunshots suck. Even the ones that don't kill you.

Now, Let's help him fix his truck.

I had a truck before with a bullet wound. It also had a M240 being run out the passenger side window at one point. It had also been shipped to Kuwait in its life. It was a M923A2 5 ton military cargo truck. I noticed the hole in the step and dent in the air tank on the passenger side before I got it. Hole was kind of big for a 5.56 round even if it was tumbling... Held air and parts were available so was fine to me. Thought maybe it was a training incident or something.
    Wrong.
Tore the passenger bench seat out of the cab to do some painting and found the plethora of links(from the machine gun) and 5.56 shell casings, and a few live rounds still in links behind the seat(FMJ's- not blanks). Also found someone's orders to Basra, Iraq. Upon some more painting work, I found the truck was desert tan under the green camo, and found they had painted the green right over a shipping label that was on the drivers side door showing it going to Kuwait city in 2002 if I recall correctly.
I'll have to see if I can find the pictures(on an old HD somewhere) from it and will share.

    I stand corrected.
There is a coolant line and hose down there.

The description makes it sound like the entry was at the door frame and then into the trans tunnel. Angle is to low. Getting in or out depending on situation of course muzzle would be pointed more at the ground or more parallel to the ground at shoulder/eye level.

maybe i’m calling it the wrong name but as i was pouring in the radiator it was coming out of the rubber hose attached to the side of transmission.

well i’m positive it was coolant because it was coming out as i was pouring into radiator that’s for certain what the leak was. my worry is it shut down after 7 min of driving and gave me a flashing check engine light with high trans temp warning. after i let it set for an hr or so tried to start and it turns over but sounds different than it did or should and doesn’t start after i got the sensor out i found out it wasn’t gonna be repaired. they are hard to find with it being such a new model now i’m wondering if the same sensor for same position that is for like 16-22 that looks identical will be updated to cover 23 just hasn’t happened yet. i mean parts stores literally don’t have in their system

You were rolling like the truck flipped and your passenger had a negligent discharge?

Or you were rolling like rolling into enemy territory?

Not like it would help you fix the truck, I’m just curious haha

thanks for the actual advice. i am gonna replace sensor. my issue is with it being so new the parts houses don’t have it in their system. however the same sensor for like 16-22 is the same looking with same description. what’s the chances it just hasn’t been updated?

It’s probably still the same and just hasn’t been updated yet.

I don’t know of any parts that aren’t the same across the 3rd gens as long as it’s the same model. Year shouldn’t matter until you get to the 4th gen’s.
