Is there a special procedure to lock the diff? Today I was in 4low and pushed the button and the red light just kept flashing. Tried driving forward and reverse, but never locked.
    Am I doing it wrong?

You may have to drive forward and backwards slowly while turning to get everything to line up and lock. Once you’re stuck, the spinning wheel allows it to lock quicker.

That said, I had to get mine swapped because it wouldn’t lock and locks better after the swap than it ever did before.

In addition to the 10 miles or so of 4H a month, I also go in and out of 4L and lock the diff and drive straight a few times a month. No idea if it actually helps things work better though.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
A slight turn, causing the wheels to turn at different speeds will help.

If you have experiences with other lockers, then yes, the Toyota locker is slow. Follow all the suggestions above. I will be replacing mine with an ARB when I do the front.

It also helps to lock/unlock the diff once or twice early on a trail before you need it. It engages quickly after that
