I’m going to change brake fluid soon. I have a power bleeder and I got the adapter for my truck. I had trouble using the tool in the past(on a Silverado)because of the antilock brake system. I have since read to disconnect the battery…at least on some vehicles…and wait for about 20 minutes. This allows antilock system to discharge so fluid will flow freely to calipers and wheel cylinders.

Does anyone have experience/knowledge about this on our trucks? I’m fully aware I can do the pump and bleed method but I’d really like to use the tool since I have it. I’ve used it in the past on other vehicles and it’s really handy. Thanks for any input.

I used it normally on my truck when bleeding all the brakes. The stream was weak but I don't like to use too much pressure through the system.

I have the Motive Brake Bleeder and no issues at all with this vehicle. On most GM vehicles you need to activate the ASB pump to bleed the air out of the pump if any gets trapped. I haven't had this issue yet with the Tacoma's. If you have a scan tool, most will do this function.

The bleeding process on the TRD Off-road is completely different from other trim levels. It's because of the electrical doo-dads for the off-roading stuff. I would recommend doing some searching, but when I did it on my 4runner (TRD OR), I opened a bleeder, started the vehicle and lightly pressed the brake pedal. You'll hear the ABS pump activating and putting fluid through the lines. Do this for all the corners and you should be good to go. Again, do some looking around. It's been a couple of years since I did this on the 4runner, and my memory is pretty garbage.

For my 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Sport, it was a much different process.
