I like a lot of the Dollar General brand stuff. Even their coffee is pretty good. But I just tried their toaster pastries. Sticking with Pop Tarts

Dollar General is great for the convenience, and they're everywhere
You drive right up, pop in for a couple items, and away you go.
Their stuff ain't actually any cheaper though... mostly.

As opposed to going to a big supermarket.
Mrs Gritto goes on an expedition once a week, armed with a list and a sheaf of coupons
I say expedition because first you park way out in the parking lot (cuz loads of people).
Get in and walk a kilometer or so, pushing your cart up and down the aisles.
Wait in line to checkout, pay, push the cart to the far end of the parking lot, etc, etc.




But we just got an Aldi store here.
Man, I gotta say, I like it
Not so big, limited selection, sure, but decent stuff.
And it is actually cheaper.

If you go to an Aldi, go on a weekday though, and preferably not in the evening.
It's pretty popular, and I can see why.

 

I don't know why, but any dry foods from Dollar General taste like the smell of a DG. It's so friggin' weird

 

Theres one 5 miles from us and another 3miles. And just saw they were putting another one to east of us maybe another 5 miles

 

They had an Aldi in Sparta, IL when we lived there 30 yrs ago ... always liked their simple approach and general good value for your buck.

We have a mini-walmart that is a 200 yard walk from the house, and an Aldi that is a mile drive. I do like the Aldi for a lot of things. The mini-Walmart seems to have better prices than the Kroger.

Last week I stopped at a DG and picked up a few things for the camper. We don't have those in the home city. While I appreciate the convenience, It skeezed me out. If depression had a scent, it would be that store.
