Since I suffer this same affliction..... Gotta ask...

Is this because after a lifetime of getting up early & never having enough sleep........ That now when you do have the chance to sleep you STILL cant?

And what sleep you do get still sucks?

I dunno. I have been getting up between 430a and 530a for the better part of 15 years now but I still have no problem sleeping until 8 or 9a on the weekends. I think it's a case by case basis type thing.

Gotcha. All of the working years were spent getting up at 5am for day shifts & getting home at 5am if on nights.

Never got more than 5-6hrs unless was just dog sick. Now that I'm retired? My wife said oh now you will be able to sleep & get healed up/rested up. Sigh. None of that has happened.

When I do fight myself to sleep? Its not really restful. Just cant shut the brain off.
    Been telling people for decades:

    Sleep just hates me.

Good news is a 15min power nap is just as good as a couple hours for me.

Living the dream though! Retired & STILL alive (for now)

Well, I've always been an early to bed and early to rise kind of guy. Even in college, I was the guy taking the 8 a.m. classes. The job I worked for years got me up about 5:30. Even though I'm retired, I have 16 year old grandson, who isn't always the best at waking himself up for school, and now, an 85 year old mother, who goes to bed very early and is up super early. One day I slept in until almost 6 a.m. and she informed me that she was about ready to try to climb the stairs (which she can't do) to see if there was anything wrong with me. :rofl:I replied to her, "no Mom, just tired." Add to all this the aches and pains that come from being in my 60s - including plenty of arthritis - and sleeping in is just not for me. On the flip side, I'm falling asleep in the recliner around 9 p.m. some nights. :anonymous:

I'm right there with you. I always got up for school at around 0630, and on weekends, my Dad took me along to side jobs (Plumber) every weekend from age 6 until I graduated High School and left for the Army. He would always wake me between 0600 - 0630 on the weekends. And of course in the military, you get woken up anywhere from 0400 - 0500... So when I got out and went to college, I also always had 0800 classes (not by choice, but they didn't bother me at all), and I was almost always up until at least midnight doing homework. From 2020 until I got laid off last October, I worked 0600 - 1500 hours, so I was getting up at 0530 every day (working from home), and going to bed by 2130. This last year that I have been out of work, I am going to bed by 2100, and sleeping in until around 0700, but I don't sleep worth a darn. Ever since my spinal injury in 2007, I have enough pain that I can only sleep for 1 - 2 hours before it wakes me up and I have to toss and turn. So even spending 10 hours in bed, I still feel like a zombie all day, since I'm never getting any deep, restorative sleep during the night.

All you having trouble sleeping need to rent a cabin in the woods for a week or two. Leave your watch, phone, anything that has a clock on it at home. Live the two weeks without time, let your brain decide what to do and when. Eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired. Amazing how much different you function when you’re not watching the clock.

Take one at sunrise or whenever you get up, take a second one a little before sunset, take the third a while after sunset or when you go to bed. Problem solved.

You forgot leave dog at home too. Although then you would miss half the day my guys get me up 4:30-5:00 but I am used to getting then since young. Would have never seen the Northern Lights that I posted pictures of in Canada week before last if I was still in the bed.

At the cabin on the Gunflint Trail for 2.5 weeks now pulled in late yesterday. No cell phone and using a wifi radio to stab into the lodge internet.

Sunrise on the dock with you guessed it

The other side of the lake is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Knew it was going to be a good day when a bull moose crossed the road in front of us a mile from the cabin. Although he doesn't look healthy should have more fat on him than he does for this time of year

Decent numbers of birds not great but enough to make the dog happy. Happy dog then I am happy

Trusty 16 ga. Side by Side with the first ruff

Back at the cabin by noon and was going to take a nap but dog had other ideas he is spun up. Headed out in a few minutes for the last couple hours of daylight.

Life is good even with a dog or more like because of him. No complaints here.
