This is a built in bumper step, on a GMC truck:

yes sir gm is the best in the business when it comes to the bed and rear bumper although their transformer tailgates are doofy. they actually have two built in steps when the tailgate is down. they way it should be after their license patent expires

Factory Toyota mounts to the left side only, IIRC. But maybe not, since it is made by AMP Research.
The AMP research one I had linked, looks like it could be mounted on either side. Only question would be how easy it would be to flip the step pad (so it would extend to the outside of the bumper, when folded). IIRC, it can be done, with some effort.

I have had OEM Toyota step for 2 years, and have never wished for a step on the right side, honestly.
Even when I load bags of mulch or dirt in the truck, it is just as easy for me to climb on the left side, with the step, vs right side (if it had a step on the right). I need to unlock the tailgate first, so I would be standing in the middle anyways. What's one step left vs one step right to use the flip down step?
I have bad knees (old hockey injuries), so step makes a big difference for me.

That's the Titan which is canceled after 2024. The mid-size Frontier's rear bumper is shaped like the Tacoma's. In fact the whole truck is styled like the Tacoma, because Nissan chose to copy the sales leader.

Is the current Titan a rebranded Chrysler/Ram, like they used to be at one time?

^It was never a rebranded Ram. Nissan had partnered with Chrysler to do it, but the deal collapsed due to the 2008 recession (and Fiat buying Chrysler to prevent bankruptcy). Nissan had to restart design on its own, delaying the 2nd gen (current gen) Titan and 3rd gen Frontier by many years. The 2nd gen Titan shares a platform with the Armada aka Nissan Patrol in foreign markets, where it competes with the Land Cruiser station wagon.

probably right but at least Id have a step on both sides of the tailgate when its down. Also wonder if there are any side steps that extend to in front of the rear tires so you step on that to get in the back of the truck.

Running boards, the only way I know of. I have 8" wide running boards, and I can reach in the back of the bed. Have to have the rear cab door open and hold onto the cab with one hand.

this is how it should be on all pickups when their patents run out. I think toyota is more focused on form over function in their pickups unfortunately

I looked at fender flares for about a month. Most of them are simply for looks. The bmw suvs have like inverted flares.

ok Ill move on to the seating position. Why is the top of the driver seat only 4 inches from the floorboard and why do my knees the same height as the steering column when driving. I feel like im driving a go cart.

Sell Tacoma, buy a GMC, you are obviously unhappy with your truck. Did you even test drive it before buying?

I already bought it so i have to make it work. I put 2 inches of seat jackers and it still feels like my ass is on the floorboard and im only 5 10. Yall feel that the seat position it normal?

With my seat up high like this my hair is basically rubbing the headliner and I have to enter the truck sideways due to the reduced space from the top of the seat to the top of the door frame. Any potential fixes that you are aware of other than chopping the pillars and raising roof 8 inches the seat another 4 inches for a total of 6 inches for the seat? Also dont have a sunroof so i cant imagine how tight it is for the folks that have that.

??? Did you buy it sight unseen, no test drive?????

It is not a truck for you. I am 6 ft, my son is 6ft 2 inches, and we have no problems getting in or out or sitting in the truck. Still have a few inches between my head and the headliner. Seat position is fine. Could use another inch in steering wheel telescope.
Sell it, you will get 99.99% of your $ back, it is a Toyota, and a 3rd Gen at that. 4th Gen has some teething problems, people will pay good money for a newer 3rd Gen.
