You have to plug your charging wire into the USB port, in this case the iPod sync cable and then plug the iPod on and it should come up almost instantly

Usb doesnt work at all but the aux cord icon on the screen gets brighter as soon as i plug the cord in. Tried 3 different usb cords. My phone charges using the usb cord though. Time for the dealer to fix it up.

Are the cords apple cords or aftermarket cords?

Ok. Sometimes the aftermarket cords don't work as well as the apple ones.

Just curious, what model of iPod are you using?

I've got a few, but mostly use my 5.5G iPod video (2006) and iPod classic (2009). The Classic works but if you use the head unit to select a song it doesn't play the right one, and will completely freeze the head unit randomly. Never had a problem on my Alpine unit though.

The iPod video is what I'm using right now since it works 100%. I can browse playlists, artists, albums, etc though the head unit and it works flawlessly most of the time. I've got about 9,400 songs on it right now and it hasn't had any problems handling it. It will sometimes not show up though and I have to unplug/replug for it to show again.

I've seen more issues with models running iOS (iPod touch, my iPhone and roommates iPhones, etc).

New Iphone works fine. Dealer tried and it worked perfect. Must be my old 2gig ipod from 12 years ago.

I am using the apple cord on my iPod nano 4th gen, I plug it into the USB port, it plays fine for about 3 days then freezes up. Get nothing on the iPod (dead) could this be an iPod issue? just wondering

Get a USB flash drive, transfer all of the songs to that drive. Use that instead.

I just installed a JL audio stealthbox, and JL amplifier, everything works fine including the USB port, android auto works when I plug my phone into USB port, and my I pod will play but not through the deck, and the source option to select USB is not highlighted anymore after install, on the screen of deck, but everything else is, IE AM, FM, SIRIUS XM? the harness I used is toyota specific, so no cutting or splicing of any wiring on back of the deck, any thoughts, or anyone else have this issue? It worked before the install, so not sure if something came undone, or the harness which is plug and play is not allowing the USB source to recognize it on the deck screen.

Definitely the age of the iPod. My old classic wouldn't work in my truck but my touch would work just fine. I also tried one of these rebuilds. It also works just fine.

Now I run an iPad Mini 4. Handles all the music plus it has GPS so it some times gets used for maps. Works just fine for both.

Yea, it did work before stereo upgrade though, so not sure if that's the issue, or something in the harness.

Is the reset I heard about really a thing on the 3rd Generation, pushing and holding the power button?

Oh the stock head, if you push and hold power, it restarts. Doesn’t “reset” anything. It’s the same as turning your truck off and back on again
