Yeah, follow that video it's great.

It may seem daunting at first, getting it into check temp mode but it's really easy. Although the issue you probably have is it's low on fluid, so checking it... won't do much as it'll be low and nothing will come out of the overflow check valve.

I'd just plan on following the video, draining, and filling with new fluid.

How do you know it goes to 3rd?
3rd gen has a quirk by getting stuck in 4th when ACIS is on under certain conditions

Sounds like u bought used ? Maybe it has a tune on it … the previous owner screwed something up .thats why it’s hanging in 3rd gear . Low fluid wouldn’t do it randomly. A improperly installed tune will since it’s not programmed correctly.

I'm just guessing it goes into 3rd as the rpm's will jump up to about 3,000. If I put it into neutral while I'm still moving and then back to drive it seems to revert back to "normal".

I don't think it's been tuned as everything is totally stock.

Instead move the stick to S mode and upshift.
You can spool more than 3k in 4th before dropping to 3rd.

I could try that. But that limits you to gears 1-4 only if what I read is correct.

Move stick to S mode and forward. The tranny will upshift. Kick the stick back to D

When you put it in S mode it goes into 4th then you can go up, 5-6 or down 3-2-1, thru the gears
