I bought a 2014 Tacoma PreRunner RWD with 88,000 last February and I’ve been chasing a problem ever since.

I having loose/wandering steering at speeds over 50mph. At the same time I’m have a clunk coming somewhere from the steering column assembly. So far I have changed my rack and pinion, LCA, lowered it back to stock height (had 2in lift when I bought it), upper and lower steering shafts. No changes in handling or noise.

I can confirm that tie rods, UCA, sway bar/bushings, wheel bearings are all in working order.

I’ve also had 3 alignments at 3 different trusted shops. I’ve also done 2 wheel balances and rotations. I’ve played with PSI ranging from 30-40. Tires are stock size Firestone.

Currently at a complete loss. I have a feeling there is something loose between the steering wheel itself but above the upper steering shaft/rag joint. As if the main shaft is loose somehow. I’m just not sure how to go about checking or replacing that. Any ideas will be appreciated!

I would double check on those sway bar end links. Even though they visually look fine, they could be bad.

I had a clunk and wandering steering and the sway bar end links were the culprit. They’re $12 for a set of moogs and took 20 min to swap out which a vast majority of it is jacking up the truck and removing the tire.

Didn’t realize they were so cheap! I’ll be changing those asap. Not so sure if that’ll be my solution but at this point I’m willing to try anything this cheap lol
