Stolen rail gate

I put spare keys to everything in my garage that I often leave open at night.

 

just a thought.... the SABELLCO is prob better quality than the china copy? on Amazon for less money

I have this. Unless they carry around a security torx bit set/angle grinder, it’s not coming off.

 

you could fill the torx hole with jb weld, super glue, ect too
i cant ever see the need to take off my gate

Thread title had me thinking someone absconded with a sex scandal. "rail-gate"

 

I like this idea - I have not done it yet and I keep my truck in my garage at night but I have been thinking of somehow stripping the the torx hole so even if they have a torx wrench it won't work. I have the washer on the cable and the anti theft device but anyone with a torx wrench can easily defeat them. The super glue though might work.

I have a worm clamp on my 09 tailgate, and it’s original. Can only reach it from a single position with a very long screwdriver.

 

Speaking of those scandals ... size matters ...

 

That sucks you couldn't find the same seller / tailgate thief that had a tailgate keyed to your key.

 

Although not as secure as the other locks mentioned earlier in this thread, I simply used a hose clamp I had laying around. Should deter anyone looking for a quick steal and would def slow them down if I ever leave my tailgate down somewhere. I also have the R4T tailgate lock kit which keeps it locked every time the truck is.

 

I added the washer with torx bolt as well but really anyone with a torx bit can get to my washer and my anti-theft deice pretty easily. Will that stuff slow them down - sure - but not by much. I am going to drill out the torx heads enough so the wrench is rendered useless as someone a few post up suggested. I am in a very safe area (or at least it seems safe - no crime, break ins etc that i know of anyway) and I keep my truck in my garage at night - actually all the time when I'm home and lock the tail gate and have a LowMax (sp?) bed cover but it's out there when I go to the mall or out to eat etc. So I want to make it as hard as possible to steal the tailgate.

 

I used a hose clamp for many years, but I got tired of looking at that 3 dollar hose clamp on my truck, that's what started me making the anti theft device

 

Happy with mine. People complained about getting the torx screw out. With some prep it isn't hard.

I was one of those complainers! lol

Christian refunded my money and I sent it to one of the members here...paying it forward!!!

I had my son-in-law hold the tailgate after removing it and still....could not get that Torx screw to budge.

Oh well, the SaBellCo is a solid lock.

 

THX RIX TUX for the suggestion - I guess if they are determined they can break the tailgate lock and use an angle grinder to to cut the head off four torx bolts. But I ruined the heads and then tested them and they ain't comin out without the heads being ground and drilling them out. So if I ever need a new tailgate that is what the shop will have to do.
