    @Ozark_RegCab

Outside of making the impulse decision to get out of your truck so bad and finding the first 100 series you can afford, what are some real reasons you've come up with to convince yourself that you want this vehicle

And is it a private party sale? Why does it have to remain at $7,500 and why do you have to set aside so much for taxes and more?

Is there more to the story that you're not sharing?

Oh for sure, you bought at a good time

Think many of us bought around the same time actually

But I just meant those smaller credit unions that make those exceptions for even older vehicles; they don't have much more to offer outside of that

Yes it’s private party and 7500 is the lowest they’d go. There’s actually another 98 for sale with matching tires here locally, but the rims are hideous and it looks a bit rougher: sales tax is charged when you register any used vehicle over 4K in Arkansas. I had the though of registering it in Montana when I go to Idaho since they have no sales tax on used cars, it I’m not sure they’d allow that if I live in Idaho (the border is pretty close to Moscow though).

I’ve wanted a 100 series for a while, especially a 98-99 with the rear locker. I like the idea of having the extra space and versatility. I’m tired of having a pickup bed that just accumulates junk. I was thinking of leaving the Tacoma at my moms and using it when I visit.

Why would only “bad” ones finance classic/older vehicles though? I mean they can repo it just like any other car. I don’t see why some shitbox 2020 Altima is seen a so much better to finance than a quality overbuilt Land Cruiser.

I've already explained this in-depth; I've got 11+ years experience and was a finance director who's main purpose was working with lenders over vehicle loans

Don't want to repeat all that info again

So I was asking because it seems you're set on just buying a Land Cruiser.

Figure the best any of us can do is offer you some buying advice so you don't continue to repeat past mistakes.

Since the seller won't negotiate at all on their pricing, why don't you suggest getting an inspection done at their cost at a nearby mechanic? If they're serious about selling, they'd have no issue with doing that since you're willing to go as far as getting a loan on it.

This is not an unreasonable request, so do not treat this purchase the same way you were going to treat the sale of your vehicle.

From there, if the mechanic points out anything extra outside of what was shared with you, I would take that opportunity to use that evidence as a means of negotiation otherwise I would completely call the deal off.

I don't know you well enough, but something tells me you are the type of person that cannot say no or shy away from a purchase and you'd easily get pressured into buying at the seller's request.

But if the seller is unwilling to go through a mechanic and pay for an inspection, I'd just walk away especially if I didn't have the knowledge/experience to know what to look for.

And since you're moving, why not wait to get a vehicle for after you move to Idaho?

You'd have a better chance at finding something without rust, not to mention it'll be after you've settled in.

Anyone that's moved any amount of times knows it can get a bit expensive starting over again, and that bonus you kept mentioning earlier? That's money that can be spent on unforeseen shit that comes up that you might otherwise not have money for either.

I guess I just don't understand the mindset of getting so stuck on a vehicle that you have to buy it, even if it's a shit deal all because it checks off the smallest prerequisites.

Yea I may ask them about that. At least the Nittos they have on the rear are fairly cheap at 196 a piece.

You all keep telling me trucks like this go for a premium up in the PNW, and north Idaho does have some rust issues, with Mag Chloride etc being used in the winter.

    See, that statement right there.

You are literally convincing yourself of buying into a shit deal, without the seller even pressuring you.

You need to stop pressuring yourself into buying a vehicle; you are the very person that spends too much and gets the shit end of the stick when buying a used vehicle.

It would literally be too easy to rip you off, and I hate seeing that in people.

Im actually pretty confident in it mechanically other than the tire thing. The guy just replaced the whole cooling system with quality parts. But the tire mismatch is still a drag.

As much shit as all of us give you, no one wants to see you (or anyone) get ripped off that's all

And you haven't inspired much confidence with your DIY ways or anything :luvya:

I didn’t see any leaks or red flags mechanically like I said. But there’s always the possibility of those things popping up once I start driving it frequently and for longer trips. He said they’d be mostly using it in town recently.

You think you can just drive to the state of Montana and go to the DMV and register your truck there and then drive back and live in Idaho!?!:rofl::rofl:

Sorry that's not how the world works, not even close.

No. He set up an LLC and registered the car to the LLC. It's a loophole often used by people with expensive cars. 6% on a $500k car is $30k. So the cost of the LLC is worth it. The legality of it is questionable. You're talking about all of $500 in tax. Big deal.
