I just raised my 2019 TRD off-road with bilstein 5100 and torch AAL. I’m currently running 265/70/16 and I’m looking to go up in size to a 285 and a 17” rim. I need help with trying to fit 285. 99% of my driving is on roads, even when I off road it is never anything extreme. If anyone has been in my shoes now I’d like to hear and see your changes.

I do understand that lifts don’t change anything for fitting a bigger tire but I’d like to hear how you were able to fit 285s.

Cab mount chop and a good alignment. You may need to trim a minimal amount of the fender flare, bumper, and wheel liner, but agian, minimally so.

How aggressive the above efforts are, depends on your wheel offset, tire model choice, and the alignment of the cab on the frame.

    What Bert said.
For my 285s; -10mm offset, cmc, alignment on oem ucas, fender liners trimmed (prematurely, so not sure if it was necessary or not) = no rub at full lock and compressed suspension.
But every truck/tire combo will be different

285/75r16. Bilsteins 5100 on the top notch with stock springs and then BP51 with 2.5” of lift and with stock UCA I didn’t need a body mount chop.

I had stock OR wheels with spider track 1.25 spacers to not rub on the UCA and then black rhino -10 wheels and no spacers.

All I had to do was trim the front bumper a little bit.

Thank you all for your input. It seems like -10 offset is the route most people have gone. I love your setup xero, looks like there is minimal trimming in your case. Did any of you go with a thicker rim with your -10 offset?

When you say 285/_ _ /17 do you want 285/70 or 285/75 there is an inch difference in diameter. A negative off set wheel makes the fit worse. I am running 285/75/17 with no cab mount chop or hammering of the pinch weld or firewall. The key is to mover the lower control arm forward. A number of companies offer LCA that have the ball joint pushed forward but what I think is the best (not the cheapest) is using Tacoma 05-23 Lower Arm Pivots – JD Fabrication I also use a number of their other components with it, and one is the UCA Tacoma 05-15 Upper Arm – JD Fabrication I also stayed with a 17x8.5" wheel with 0 offset. I have trimmed some of the front bumper cover but that will be going away eventually.

I went with 17x8.5” -10mm wheels for my 285/70/17 KO2s. 2 inch lift in front and 1” in the back.

A good alignment and some plastic trimming has me not rubbing on road 99% of the time. I still need a CMC, but it works and I would say it is tolerable for on road driving. I do off road my truck and rub every time I go off-road without the CMC.

Are you ok with cutting and all?

If not, 255/80/17 skinny tires might be for you. Personally, I like the look of 285s over 255. I had both on mine. Wheels are 16x8, -12 offset.

With the 285s, I have a hammered pinch weld, SPC UCA, lift and trimming of the fender. Am planning on a cmc for a little bit of rubbing that’s still there.

Had no rubbing with the 255s with the SPC UCA.

Damn you had to do that with 285?

I didn’t have to do that until I went 315. Minus minor trimming.

I have Bilstein 5100’s all around, set to 1.55” up front. In the rear I have the Icon AAL and a 1/2” shim from headstrong off road. I recently went from 265/75/16 to 285/75/16. I had some very minor rubbing on the front driver’s side fender liner. No cab mount chop or anything needed, just some very minor fender trimming. That wasn’t even really necessary, because only one tire rubbed at almost full lock, and only while in reverse. 100% could run these with no cutting or trimming or hammering.

Wheels are 16x8, -10mm offset. Same wheels as @Xero

Under normal driving, besides full lock reverse occasionally, I had no issues. Just those times and going off road or reverse. I decided to knock it out to stop those infrequent running and to prep for when I get new tires and go up to 35s :fistbump:

I guess every truck is different but I never rubbed except full lock slightly on the frame (not cab mount but the actual frame.).

-10 offset 16x8 wheels. 285/75r16 KO2. 2.5” off lift. Stock UCA (the castor was beneficial.)

Trimmed and pushed the liners forward until I got the Backwoods bumper.

I wheeled it pretty hard for a truck on 33s

edit also now with 315. Clears the cab mount. Hammer pinch welds, cut fenders, non plated cmc, 2.5” lift, DK UCA and same -10 wheels. 3.8 on the caster alignment and slight hammering of the fire wall. Only rubs the upper wheel well in g outs.

This is with the rear on a 3’ ramp.

Man you guys recommend alot to fit a 285.

    I ran a 285/70r17 on a 17x9 +1 2" front with a high caster alignment and minor trimming.

    I only did the cmc and pinchweld when I did a 295/70r17 17x9 -38
