Back to dealer on Tuesday. Preparing for another line of BS! “Operates as designed”. Guess it’s a BAD design..

If you're going to the dealer, there is supposedly a new Power Train TSB out for all 3rd Gens. We do not have the number yet and the change was noted to be minor to negligible. But, you never know until it is applied.

Factory tune always felt weird in that RPM range. That’s why I paid for the OVTune. Fixed it right up

    This thread is mostly incomprehensible.

My only guess is that we are talking about the torque oscillation that occurs at low rpm and high throttle. If so, every car with a manual transmission I’ve owned has exhibited this behavior to a lesser or greater extent. The Tacoma is on the lesser side. The solution is a to adjust your driving habits. Keep the rpm high if you want to open the throttle.

Oh so I should scream around town, suburbs, 50 mph areas in 2nd or 3rd gear? Now that’s incomprehensible! Besides it would stil stutter. Just trying to figure this out.

No money, all went to truck...
I thought they acknowledged and issue when you drove them around?

I love driving my 6 speed. Revving the engine, moving through gears. So much fun. I do have sprint booster so that makes it a little more responsive.

I'd eventually like to get a mellow exhaust to match the tranny. Make me feel better driving with 4th gens. They sound whimpy.

Have had every model of Toyota truck (not tundra or T100) starting with and 85. All MT. Most recently a Gen 2 Tacoma. Sold that in 2013. After owning a few other brands am back with a new 2023 DC TRD OR MT 6 speed. Took delivery in December 2023. 5k on it now. Not daily driver. Noticed this complaint immediately. Added OTT with URD crossover pipe and Injen exhaust as well as Injen Intake. Problem mostly resolved. Way better drive ability.

As a port injected and direct injected truck I believe the stutter to have to do with the transition between port injection to direct injection which happens with a certain load. There is a delay. This causes the lag.

We also have a 2016 MB Sprinter 4x4 that suffers from severe turbo lag. Almost unsafe at intersections. Will not go the. All of sudden takes off after turbo finally gets the signal. This feels a lot like that but mid rpm when trying to add load or get more output from the motor.

    My $0.02

So basically they say “live with it no repairs needed.” WYF. Every one felt it
They told me I can’t go any higher with this complaint. “Drives as designed “ ha! Piss poor design I guess. Does a “tune” actually eliminate this? I’m at a loss.

Tune doesn't eliminate it entirely (my experience).

I’m pissed! I’ve had Toyotas for 23 years. First one with any complaints. Maybe I should look for another 2012 6MT like I bought new back then. Son has it now. Ha it doesn’t stutter! Guess it operates as designed …….

I’m trying to figure out if your issue is the same as mine. For me, octane goes a long way. OTT is good too.
