When I bought my 2000 Taco I gutted my rear catalytic converter. I did not notice a big difference in power myself, but it definantly had a "raspy" sound to it. At the time I liked it a little louder, but am now wanting to quiet it back up. If anyone is interested in swapping out cats, let me know. If not, does anyone know of a good, but inexpensive aftermarket cat that would work ok? I have heard that cheap cats often times dont fix the Check Engine Light from going away.

You could put a cheaper one in and install the urd o2 sim to take care of the rear sensor reading.

That's what I keep telling the OP, but he seams to think otherwise. I've done it on a few cars back in day when emissions testing wasn't going on in my state, but those were high output Mustangs and Cobras with V8s pushing over 500+HP, not puny little 190HP Tacomas. Deleting the catalytic converter on an import V6 engine is not only going to sound a bit raspy, but it'll sound like a ricer. And in some states, even if you're just traveling through them you can get up to a $2,500 fine just pure visual inspection of you running a vehicle without them. But hey whatever blows this guy's skirt.

Dude you ain't losin no low end torque! I just did this mod and there is no difference in my 3.4. That I can feel. You might see it on a dyno but it's not likely I'm gonna put my taco on a dyno anytime soon.

2500 dollars! Cmon man. Wether you have to run cats or not is a "state" regulation. A different state cannot inforce state regs on an out of state vehicle. For example a front licsense plate. Not all states require them. You cant get a ticket for it if you are in a state that does require a front plate and you don't have one.

this thread gets more comical the longer it gets.

and to Yamaha Dave........ highly doubtful you'd get fined for driving thru another state. hell......i live in one state, and work in the next state up.........and i've never seen a cop say "hmm....while i got ya pulled.......im gonna see if you have catalytic converters or not."

if i delete my cats.....or if i dont......who really gives a shit? i didnt start the thread asking about legality or any of that bullshit. matter of fact......if anyone goes back and reads my first post..........i was asking for replies from folks who had done it....and whet their outcomes were.;)

people getting all bent outta shape for something someone else is gonna do to their own vehicle. sweet.
