Who is the insurance company? I've learned, and really should have known by now, that loyalty to an insurance company can often be a one way street.

Words can not describe the sadness I have for everyone out there and I know what I have seen and read up on is a small portion of just the tip of the iceburg. The devastation is beyond fathomable.

I am glad to hear you and your GF and your house are safe and standing, sounds like you have been doing anything and everything you can to help. Seriously let us know how we can help, like others have stated id rather send money to someone directly such as yourself vs a charity thats going to fondle the funds.

Got an intriguing offer... My 2016 S1000XR for his 2021 Husky 701SM. Really considering it..

    What say the crowd?

I say do it, but only because I love the 690/701SM.

Also those SMs seem to hold their value pretty well. Only downside I'd think is KTM reliability.

Hard to say. It's a fun bike but I place it in the "drz sm" category. Just more power. Fun bike to hoon around on though. I personally wouldn't get another.

I'd say it depends on what use you plan for the bike.

I would definitely consider it with a little cash on top as i feel the value of the S1KXR is a bit more, no? maybe not since the Husky is newer. But I feel it would definitely be more versatile than the Husky. Utility vs Hoonability

I've heard nothing but good things, aside from maybe countershaft or output seals? I might be thinking of another bike though..

Roughly about the same value, depending on area probably within $1000 of each other? I got a steal on the S1000XR, too.

Main uses are 90% commuting. I did originally buy the S1000XR because I wanted something to tour on, but then it ended up being uncomfortable for too long so I took my F800GS on my one long trip this summer.. so now I'm rethinking if I even need a tourer and just go full commuter hooner..

I'm honestly leaning towards it. I'm going to ask for some pics and what he means by "tasteful mods"

that's interesting you found the XR uncomfortable for long. I find my normal S1K to be pretty comfortable for a long day of riding, but who knows how our bodies might differ lol.

If that's the case, i'd probably say go for the swap assuming the 701 is tastefully done and well maintained. No point having an ADV bike you don't want to ride for very long.

It started killing my knees at about an hour and a half, two hours. I did some measure against the F800GS I also have (So I still have an ADV bike that fits and works well, just half the HP of the S1KXR haha) and the seat to peg distance was about 2" shorter. I looked into dropping the pegs and raising the seat but didn't feel like investing another 800 or so into it if it still wasn't going to be great for commutes.

10-11,000 miles, intake, akrapovic exhasut, tune, doubletake mirrors for mods. Fresh-er tires. Very tempting. I told him I'd think about it tonight and let him know tomorrow.

dang yeah that's no good. sounds like the F800 is for you lol. I wouldn't wanna dump too much into a new bike to make it comfortable either, at least when it's already that bad.

Husky sounds like a pretty solid trade considering your last post. tempting

I say go for it they’re very fun. Pretty sure the ‘21 model is same as mine with all the latest updates. I’m at 7400 miles now and only issue has been the leaky countershaft seal. And I’m definitely not easy on this bike ha

In addition to more power… better chassis, suspension, brakes, and electronics

I'm really thinking about it.. He's in Bend, Oregon, so about seven hours away, wouldn't be too bad for us to meet in the middle. I told him I'd sleep on it and get back to him tomorrow. I'm going to check in on the guy that was interested up in Spokane, I think I'd prefer cash but this is a great second option.

    What's your commute?

The slave cylinders also go bad and pretty common issue. He might have had it replaced already.

About 3 miles of 25mph/35mph roads, with a good mix of straights and turns, some stop/starts, elevation changes, etc. Its a blast on the grom, I feel like it has to be better on a SM.

Edit: just asked him about the countershaft seal and the slave cylinder

Agreed cash is ideal, and also the 701 would make a fun commuter for your route. Good luck!

It'll be fun if you like doing wheelies and going over that speed limit :bikewheelie2:

    Amen :bikewheelie2:

S1000XR idles at like 18mph, so its gotta be better than that for the commute. We're going to facetime on Sunday so I can get a better look, he sent a couple pics, but they aren't great, and a short video of it idling that was 50% a video of his dog wagging away (great looking dog, tho). Looks like it has newer michelin road 6's.
