Slow to recover, power is coming back up for alot. But they have to rebuild many roads just to get into the areas. Fresh food is getting thru. Fights are breaking out in gas lines and the likes. But I haven't seen anything personally. But we are staying close to home and community.
    Thank you for asking.

Funny you ask IMG_20241002_064435609_HDR.jpg but it's getting thru we've been getting mail, thanks we're good. Maybe because our carrier is from the community and knows the roads are open. We had a slide on the MTN. but they have 1 lane open.

Finally getting around to working in my basement. It has a full drop ceiling I’m tearing out.

what is the best option for routing electrical and such that has been previously above the drop ceiling but below the floor joists, if I’m wanting to leave the ceiling exposed or possibly put drywall up? I’d rather not drill holes through floor joists.

In the northeast in particular they often would put 3/4 inch slat wood along the floor joists underneath to drywall off of. In my house, that allowed space for wiring to be run under the floor joist without drilling. I’m also going from a bad drop ceiling in the basement to fresh drywall and gaining back some height but in my case almost all my electrical is being redone and plumbing has been redone as well so I can make changes that made sense for my planned ceiling.

Can you specify, 3/4 inch slat wood, just like pieces or full boards? Basically just to act like spacers I assume?

    none yet
1x2 or 3 (so 3/4 x 1-3/4 or 2-3/4) running full length of the room perpendicular to the joists
it acts as the edge support of the drywall the way the joist would
also allows you to get a flat ceiling

open beam might require all electrical to be redone in conduit depending on room designation

Should have used the word strapping, that’s more accurate to what they’re doing. I’ve attached an image to give a better idea.

    Got it!
But where does the electrical go in those photos? If the strapping is so thin you wouldn’t want to go through it would you?

So your electrical can still go along the floor joists and instead of drilling or cutting the joists, you can feed the wire under the joist and around the strapping to get into another joist bay. Following code, you shouldn’t have a closed (drywall) ceiling with buried electrical boxes so you need full runs of new wire or you need an access point to have access to an electrical box you might have.

Got the shelves and loft framed. 1/3 of the shed almost done. Wife says we can house some migrants in this thing (JOKING). Time to sheet the loft and front.

This might help you feel better about drilling the joists.

All great advice! Back of the cabinets are plywood. Gonna buy laser level to help with the screw placement as well related to #1. The jig is a good idea, i was thinking about using a pice of 2x4 to screw in place briefly while i mount the uppers.

i'd like to see anyone do what you're asking in 2 hours...

the questions you're asking, it'd be far cheaper and homeowners-insurance-wise less taxing, to pay the electricians to do it.
