I agree, very comparable. The power is so down low that I find it rarely needs to downshift even on hills that my Tundra always drops a gear on.

I drive highway every morning to work between 70-80mph, it’s great, better than the two third gen’s I owned!

I wonder how it is compared to an OTT-tuned Gen 2.

Perhaps they can program a turbo into it's ECU–but you can only do so much with a naturally aspirated engine.

I meant the larger one you had in front that was for the 4th gen. I like the original one that is designed for the 3rd gen.

TFL dragged a 4th Gen gas Taco and a 5th Gen ScudRunner. It was pretty close.

If you turn off the audio (i.e. the dramatized commentary), it was close.

Was it close for an actual competitive race? No. But for the purposes of comparing two daily drivers, it was close.

Close for what , I'm talking distance between that was atleast 3 car lengths which is not close at all . Further I doubt those old dudes know how to drag race , with a 8 speed transmission that 5 spd doesn't stand a chance

That is probably one of my single biggest complaints on the transmission of the GEN three's is the constant surfing of searching for a gear while on the freeway. So many of the downshifts and surfing was completely unnecessary.

Are we really talking about drag racing a Tacoma and a 4 Runner. Yikes. The folks in the TRX, Raptor or just about any other forum must be busting a gut laughing out loud. They are utility daily drivers AT BEST. I am confident there is not ONE single Toyota engineer that even thinks about a quarter mile time in their "to do" list when designing these.

The difference is night and day. Test drive a 2024 and you’ll realize what a pig the 3rd gen is/was… I’ve had mine for a few days and was pleasantly shocked at how much grunt the little turbo has.

Did you run in ECT all the time like I did/do or did you just get in and go? Because, yes, without ECT turned on, it definitely feels sluggish.

In my 3rd Gen I ran ECT everywhere except highway. It had 216K on the clock when I got rid of it. It was a fine truck and I got used to the transmission hunting etc… BUT, as I said the the 2024 blows it away as far as tourque, power and ride quality. There’s no comparison IMHO..

When I test drove the 24 hybrid off-road, it was a pretty awesome test drive. Were you lucky enough to get a hybrid or were you going for the standard from the beginning?

I did not want a hybrid. It’s a company truck and they probably wouldn’t have wanted to shell the money for it anyway. Interestingly, on a 90 minutes ride down the highway yesterday I got 25.5 mpg averaging 74 miles per hour. The best I ever got in the 3rd gen on the same road at the same speed was around 22-23. I drive 45k miles annually, love Toyota trucks.
